Job Description

Responsible for preparing, sterilizing equipment/instruments and tracking them in an accurate and timely manner. This role also prepares operating room case carts, sterile trays and supplies for all areas of the hospital. This role also provides leadership in the absence of the manager and/or supervisor and performs additional administrative responsibilities as assigned.

STAFF & INVENTORY MANAGEMENT : Creates an environment that motivates superior performance and establishes collaborative relationships and networks to achieve objectives. Collaborates with the sterile processing management team to help develop and adjust work schedules to established unit protocols and/or productivity standards. Contributes to the orientation process and on-the-job training and assists in the evaluation and progression of new hires and current employees during the annual review process. Maintain sterile processing department levels of stock and supplies and ensure appropriate locations within department are stocked at established par levels.

STERILE PROCESSING CLINICAL DUTIES: Prepares instrumentation and equipment for sterile processing. Verifies the sterilization process. Decontaminates and reprocesses all reusable equipment and instrumentation. Checks equipment for cleanliness, functional use; inventories and documents the quantity of each instrument per tray/container and wraps trays and product for sterilization in accordance with established policies and procedures. Performs required biological and Bowie-Dick tests on a daily basis and records corresponding results. Records autoclave load contents and required statistics in a complete and accurate manner. Prepares case carts for the operating room based surgical needs and supplies.

Qualifications

Required - High School Diploma or GED
Sterile processing technician certification or CRCST

Preferred - Vocational/Technical degree
