Reports to: Program Services Manager - Allied Health and Outpatient Therapy
Hours: 22.5 hours per week
Shifts: Days
Salary: $43.47 - $54.34 Hourly (To be commensurate with experience, and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Status: Temporary Part-Time (1 year)

Position Summary
As an integral member of the Allied Health team, the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides assessment and treatment services to adults with spinal cord injury across inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation settings. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative interprofessional team to address communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing needs that impact participation, health, safety, and quality of life. The Speech-Language Pathologist participates in clinical rounds, discharge planning, quality improvement initiatives, student education, and program development activities, while supporting service delivery across the continuum of spinal cord rehabilitation. This position may provide coverage across inpatient and outpatient clinical areas as operationally required.
Duties
- Assess and treat adults with swallowing, communication, and cognitive-communication impairments within a spinal cord rehabilitation setting.
- Complete comprehensive dysphagia assessments and provide recommendations regarding swallowing management, diet modifications, compensatory strategies, and patient safety.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans based on patient goals and evidence-informed practice.
- Provide education and counselling to patients, families, and caregivers regarding communication and swallowing disorders.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, recreation therapy, respiratory therapy, psychology, and other team members to support coordinated patient care.
- Participate in interprofessional rounds, discharge planning, family meetings, and case conferences.
- Complete timely clinical documentation and workload reporting in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
- Supervise students and contribute to staff education and knowledge translation activities as appropriate.
- Participate in quality improvement, program development, research, and professional practice initiatives within the Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Program.
- Provide coverage across inpatient and outpatient spinal cord rehabilitation services as required.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent required.
- Registration in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) required.
- Experience working with adults with acquired neurological conditions, dysphagia, and communication disorders preferred.
- Experience in rehabilitation and/or spinal cord rehabilitation preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in swallowing assessment and management.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional rehabilitation team.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and clinical reasoning skills.
- Commitment to patient-centred care, evidence-informed practice, and continuous professional development.
