Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Security Control Operator include coordinating and dispatching Security Professionals at Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in response to Security incidents, emergency codes, life safety concerns and calls for assistance. The Security Control Operator monitors and assesses Security activity through CCTV, access control, alarm systems, radio communications and other technologies. The operator acts as a central point of communication, providing direction, information and operational support to responding Security Professionals while maintaining awareness of Security activity across UHN. The position is also responsible for completing required documentation, notifications and administrative duties, and supporting the overall safety and security of patients, staff, visitors and UHN property.

Duties

  • Monitor CCTV, access control, alarms and other Security systems across UHN sites.
  • Receive, assess and dispatch Security calls for service, ensuring the appropriate response is provided.
  • Monitor Security radio communications and maintain awareness of incidents and Security activity across UHN.
  • Coordinate and support Security response to emergency codes, alarms and calls for assistance following established departmental and UHN procedures.
  • Provide timely information and updates to responding Security Professionals, Security leadership and other hospital departments as required.
  • Act as a central point of communication during Security incidents and coordinate with external emergency services when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of Security calls, dispatch activity, alarms, notifications and significant incidents.
  • Identify and escalate Security concerns, system issues and emerging incidents that may impact patients, staff, visitors or UHN property.
  • Support Security investigations through CCTV review, system information and other available Security resources.
  • Protect patients, staff, visitors and UHN property while supporting a safe and secure hospital environment.
  • Perform cross-functional Security duties as assigned and/or requested.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent
  • Communication/Administration Diploma and/or equivalent security experience
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a control centre/dispatch centre environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must be proficient in technology based applications
  • MS Office computer program experience
  • Demonstrated ability for working in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to comply with all immunization and mask fit requirements
  • Must be able to assess and prioritize service requests upon demand
  • Perform all aspects of the photo identification function as required
  • Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English
