Job Summary

The Cancer Prevention and Interception Clinic is a multidisciplinary, site‑agnostic program focused on cancer risk assessment, early detection, and prevention across the disease continuum. By identifying molecular and clinical markers before the onset of symptoms, the program enables early intervention to prevent or delay disease progression. It brings together clinical care, research, and system navigation under a unified institutional strategy, integrating advances in genomics, imaging, biomarkers, immunotherapy, and theranostics. This proactive approach supports improved outcomes through prevention, early cure, precision treatment, and continuous innovation in cancer prevention and early detection. The clinic integrates clinical care, genetics, population health, and research to reduce cancer burden and improve outcomes for individuals at increased risk.  

The Cancer Prevention and Interception Clinic is seeking a motivated and collaborative Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing multidisciplinary team. Full-time and part-time opportunities are available.

Working under the supervision of clinic physicians and in collaboration with nurses, genetic counsellors, researchers, and other healthcare professionals, the PA will provide comprehensive clinical care to individuals at varying risk of cancer. The successful candidate will play an important role in cancer prevention, risk assessment, patient education, and care coordination within a leading academic healthcare environment.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative models of cancer prevention and early detection while supporting research and quality improvement initiatives.

Duties

  • Participate in cancer prevention, early detection, interception, and high-risk assessment clinics
  • Perform patient histories, physical examinations, and clinical assessments
  • Support comprehensive cancer risk evaluations and contribute to individualized prevention, screening, and surveillance plans
  • Assist with new patient triage and coordination
  • Provide patient education and counselling related to cancer risk reduction, screening, lifestyle modification, and preventive health strategies
  • Order and interpret investigations within the PA scope of practice and under medical directives
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and researchers to coordinate patient car
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation within the electronic medical record
  • Contribute to research activities, patient recruitment, and data collection, as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or eligible to be certified by PACCC 
  • Eligible to work in Canada/Ontario
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
  • Proficient and appropriate use of diagnostic and procedural skills
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team
  • Demonstrated ability to perform well in critical and high stress situations
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Demonstrated ability to apply basic computer skills
  • Willingness to work with the DMOH team to develop appropriate medical directives and evolve the role to meet the patient/program needs
