Status: Temporary Full-Time (12 month contract)

Position Summary
The Research Ethics Coordinator for the Research Ethics Board (REB) is a key administrative position within the research structure of the University Health Network. The position has both scientific and ethics review functions as well as a liaison function. The Coordinator is responsible for the coordinating and managing all aspects of the submission, review, revision, and approval of research protocols within the University Health Network. The Coordinator must be familiar with experimental design as it applies to biomedical research and be familiar with the most recent ethical standards as captured in the Tri-Council Policy Statement. The Coordinator must be able to communicate and liaise effectively with the REB Co-chairs, investigators, research coordinators and administrative staff throughout UHN as well as with outside groups such as pharmaceutical companies and government agencies. The Coordinator coordinates and supports the REB and its' members. The Coordinator must have effective organizational skills and is responsible for supervising the daily maintenance of electronic files. The Coordinator must be able to work independently, but under the supervision of the Senior Manager and Team Lead.
Duties
- Coordination and review of all REB submissions and its corresponding study documents (e.g. research protocols, Investigator Brochures, consent forms, etc.) received by the REB office, for initial REB submissions, amendments, protocol deviations, unanticipated problems, adverse events, renewals, closures, researchers’ responses to REB queries and make recommendations for decision or need for revision;
- Acting as a Research Ethics liaison, you will work with the REB Chairs, Vice-Chairs, Panel members and other members of the Ethics Review Services team throughout the ethics review process to ensure REB submissions are in compliance with relevant regulations, guidelines and policies;
- Providing accurate and complete documentation of REB discussions and decisions;
- Coordination and the maintenance of electronic documents to ensure timely and accurate record keeping; responsible for appropriate archiving of electronic files (as required);
- Communication and education;
- Attending REB Meetings.
Qualifications
- At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related or life sciences field or equivalent combination of education/experience related to clinical trials; Master’s preferred
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in clinical research conducting trials or acting as a research coordinator or monitor
- Strong knowledge of research administration and ethics regulatory frameworks (e.g. most recent Tri-Council Policy and Ethical Conduct for Research involving Human Participants, ICH-Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, Health Canada Division 5, FDA regulations, PHIPA, etc.)
- Possess a working knowledge of health and social sciences research methodology
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills required
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Must be resourceful and have consultative skills
- Demonstrated ability to use tact and discretion in a high-workload, highly demanding academic research environment where breadth of research and ethical issues can be diverse, novel and/or complex
- Computer proficiency (e.g. Microsoft Office, Teams, Adobe Reader, etc.) and asset
- Experience with an electronic REB application system (e.g. CAPCR, Romeo, Infonetica, etc.) an asset
- Certification as a Clinical Research Professional (e.g. SOCRA, ACRP, etc.) an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge in bioethics an asset
- Experience as a volunteer REB committee member an asset
