Position Summary:
The UHN Collaborative Academic Practice department is recruiting an experienced Discipline Head lead to support and enable academic practice at UHN.
The Discipline Head – Respiratory Therapy, is the point of contact for practice for respiratory therapy. This role represents the professions at the Professional Advisory Committee, other UHN committees and working groups as required. As well, the Discipline Head ensures any current or new regulatory standards are implemented and works with the team to set standards for the profession. This Discipline Head, Respiratory Therapy supports academic practice.
Duties
- Design, develop, implement, and communicate profession standards and competencies to support profession-specific practice and documentation, in keeping with best practice, legislated and professional requirements as well as UHN‘s mission and goals
- Implement quality indicators and monitoring
- Support the profession to work to full scope and where appropriate advanced scope of practice
- Develop and Influences respiratory therapy related policy and practice
- The ideal candidate is an strong clinician with demonstrated ability to transform and engage the team
- Creating opportunities to build research and education capacity
- Facilitate, participate or lead quality improvement and evidence-based research related practice to improve patient care outcomes
- Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with stakeholders across education, research, and clinical practice
- Lead to ensure the profession meets its commitments for clinical education of learners within the context of practice and care at UHN
- Consult on care delivery model
- Lead practice orientation processes and develop and implement notice to expert framework to as well as enabling ongoing professional development
- Support UHN Strategic Goals related to respiratory therapy practice
Qualifications
- Registration as an Respiratory Therapist with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
- At least three (3) years’ experience as a Respiratory Therapist required
- Comprehensive understanding of regulatory standards and legislation related to respiratory therapy practice
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Strong skills in identifying practice issues and collaboratively problem solving
- Ability to implement quality improvement projects, facilitate knowledge translation and understanding of project management principles
- Skills in creating an environment that is collaborative, interprofessional and accountable, partnering with patients and caregivers
- Exercises exceptional decision-making capabilities, collaboration, as well as facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent facilitation skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders with different opinions
- Previous leadership experience an asset
