Hours: 19 hours per week
Salary: $30.04 - $45.06 per hour
Status: Permanent part-time

Position Summary
As part of the Patient Experience Portfolio, the Learning Centres strive to enhance the patient experience across the care continuum by providing high-quality health information, digital health literacy tools and resources, and caregiver support.
As an integral member of the Patient & Family Learning Centres team, the Library technician, under the direction of the Librarian, manages the administrative, operational, and technical activities of the Learning Centres. Key responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, delivering exceptional customer service, processing resources, performing cataloguing duties, and providing customized health information searches. This role also involves cross-functional tasks as assigned and other duties as required within the job classification. This is a junior, entry-level position, ideal for someone interested in health librarianship. This position is fully on-site role (Toronto General and Toronto Western Hospitals).
Duties
- Provide exceptional customer service at the front desk by greeting library visitors, identifying their information needs, and offering prompt assistance. Support includes providing customers with reliable health information, helping with digital devices, tools, and resources, and connecting patients with appropriate services at UHN or in the community.
- Conduct information consults and provide consumer health reference services to patients, families, members of the public, and healthcare professionals to support patient education and health literacy
- Support patients and families in navigating hospital spaces and systems; provide referrals to other departments or community agencies as appropriate
- Support collection development and acquisition process
- Facilitate a safe, shame and blame-free environment for all patrons; prioritize patient and worker safety
- Consistently demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills that demonstrate compassion, empathy, patience, and respect for colleagues, patients, family members, and caregivers
- Ensure that the library technology equipment is in order and contact digital support when needed
- Perform cataloguing duties under the supervision of the Librarian
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment with strong time management, organizational, and planning skills
- Assists library patrons with digital devices and accessing digital resources and services
- Participate in self-directed and directed cross-functional task groups or teams to achieve the Learning Centres' and UHN’s goals and objectives.
Qualifications
- Library & Information Technician Diploma
- 2 years of relevant experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Confidentiality and privacy awareness
- Problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail is required
- Excellent attendance record
- Strong digital skills, including the ability to navigate various digital devices and platforms
- Experience with AI generative platforms, including understanding prompting techniques, and the advantages and limitations of AI-generated content
- Experience with graphic design tools is an asset
- Experience working in healthcare setting is an asset
- Experience working with vulnerable populations is an asset
