Reports to: Manager, Professional Practice
Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week 
Shifts: Days, with Flexible Evenings/Weekends
Status: Permanent Full-Time 
Closing Date: December 11, 2025

Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Nurse Educator (APNE) is a member of Collaborative Academic Practice & Practice-Based Education portfolios. The APNE aligns with unit interdisciplinary leadership teams, and demonstrates a set of core competencies fundamental to developing and maintaining the academic practice environment at UHN. The APNE role involves enhancing patient care by applying evidence-based practices, providing clinical consultation, and addressing gaps in practice. The APNE uses best practice in education to assess learning needs, develop, design, deliver and evaluate educational programs.

Duties

  • Design and deliver tailored staff education
  • Promote professional development, and mentors nurses for career growth
  • Collaborate with teams across UHN and the academic community on clinical and educational initiatives
  • Participate in committees, and share best practices
  • Lead program evaluation, implement innovative education strategies, and support and lead quality improvement initiatives
  • Drive nursing visibility and change management efforts, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Masters degree program in Nursing or Education, or recognized equivalent, is required
  • Completion of specialty-specific certification program(s) relevant to respective clinical areas 
  • Critical Care Experience required
  • At least three (3) years of recent nursing experience in a critical care unit 
  • Theoretical and practical experience in adult education including learning needs assessment, educational program planning, development, and evaluation an asset
  • Previous experience as an Educator is an asset
  • Knowledge of nursing care of neurology and neurosurgical patient is considered an asset
  • Current certificate of licensure/registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification
  • Current membership in RNAO (Registered Nurses Association of Ontario) is preferred
  • Current membership in a related professional interest group or association is preferred
  • Excellent leadership, time management, presentation skills
  • Ability to be adaptable, build trust, provide coaching and collaboration, facilitate change and promote continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate ability to motivate staff and create an environment conducive to learning and team building
  • Sound knowledge base in areas of specialty and the education process
  • Able to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Competence in use of information technology
  • Ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines
