As an integral member of the Cancer Rehab and Survivorship Program (CRS) and a Regulated Health Professional, the Registered Kinesiologist will be responsible for the delivery of clinical programming and education related to physical activity, exercise, and healthy lifestyle behaviours to cancer survivors. Primary involvement will be with Cancer Rehab and Exercise Program and the principal responsibilities of the Registered Kinesiologist will include: conducting aerobic fitness, musculoskeletal fitness, functional capacity, and body composition assessments; interpreting health assessment results; developing, reviewing and modifying exercise prescriptions according to patient outcomes, disease and/or treatment related considerations; providing health and wellness education in a group and individualized setting; conducting group and individualized exercise education sessions; conducting or supervising group and individual exercise classes/sessions; monitoring vital signs and responses to exercise (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, rate of perceived exertion, signs and symptoms of over-exertion); supervising/mentoring trainees and students; virtual coaching for patients participating in a home-based exercise program; using health coaching skills to improve adherence to exercise program; discharge planning for patients upon program completion; triaging referrals; completing documentation in a timely manner; quality assurance, administrative, and program related marketing activities; liaising with members of the interdisciplinary team; and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or equivalent
- Master’s degree or post-graduate certificate in kinesiology or equivalent is preferred
- Current registration in good standing with COKO
- Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification preferred
- Cancer Exercise Specialist/Trainer certification preferred
- Proof of professional liability insurance
- BCLS (C level)
- Membership with professional association (e.g. Ontario Kinesiology Association) preferred
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in exercise for clinical populations preferred
- Excellent physical and clinical assessment skills
- Working knowledge of adult learning principles and health coaching techniques
- Previous experience mentoring students/volunteers an asset
- Strong client service focus and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) required
- Excellent computer skills with MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook
- Epic software knowledge an asset
- Knowledge of good clinical research practice strongly preferred
- Ability to establish effective relationships with patients and colleagues
- Self-directed individual with the ability to work both independently and within an interdisciplinary team
