Position Summary
UHN is undertaking the transformational redevelopment of its primary digital presence, UHN.ca, to reflect our commitment to patient-first care, innovation, and excellence.. Reporting to the Communications and Brand Strategy team, the Manager, Website Transformation will lead the strategic direction and execution of this multi-year initiative through March 2029. This role oversees a small team, which includes the Advisor, Website Transformation and Coordinator, Website Transformation, and works in close partnership with the Project Manager and cross-functional stakeholders.
The Manager, Website Transformation will provide strategic leadership and subject-matter expertise to guide the reimagining and re-platforming of UHN.ca. This role champions a user-centered approach to digital communications, ensuring alignment with UHN’s enterprise priorities while fostering collaboration across internal teams and external partners. With a focus on excellence in content governance, user experience, stakeholder engagement, and change management, the Manager will play a key advisory role in working groups and cross-functional initiatives. Their strategic input will help ensure the website redevelopment is seamlessly integrated with UHN’s broader digital transformation efforts. This role is ideal for a communications leader who thrives in a dynamic, cross-functional environment and is passionate about shaping the future of digital engagement at UHN.
Duties
- Strategic Oversight
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the redevelopment and re-platforming of UHN.ca, ensuring alignment with UHN’s digital priorities and patient-first values.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the core project team, contributing expertise in communications, change management, and digital transformation.
- Assist in setting a clear vision for the future state of UHN.ca, translating enterprise goals into actionable digital strategies that reflect UHN’s commitment to patient-first care, innovation, and excellence.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
- Facilitate cross-functional alignment between Communications and Brand Strategy, Digital, and external partners and act as a trusted advisor with internal stakeholders across clinical, research, and education portfolios.
- Serve as a key advisor in planning sessions, workshops, and reviews with internal teams, external stakeholders, and third-party vendors.
- Act as a knowledgeable contributor in discussions related to content governance, information architecture (IA), and website development.
- Interpret feedback from patients, families, and internal stakeholders to inform design and content decisions.
- Champion inclusive, accessible design practices that reflect the diverse communities UHN serves.
- Change Management
- Act as a change champion, helping teams navigate digital transformation with clarity, empathy, and strategic foresight, while promoting innovation and continuous learning.
- Support organizational readiness and adoption of the new platform through clear communication, training, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Prepare internal teams and contributors for content migration, new workflows, and governance models.
- Help surface and identify points of resistance as well as champions among internal stakeholder groups and contribute to mitigation and optimization strategies.
- Team Management
- Supervise and support the Advisor and Coordinator, Website Transformation, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Manage and mentor direct reports, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the Website Transformation team.
- Subject-Matter Expertise and Web Content Strategy
- Share expertise in web content governance and user experience (UX) principles relevant to large healthcare organizations.
- Contribute to the development of content frameworks, tone-of-voice guidelines, and audience-specific messaging.
- Review and provide input on sample content, page templates, and user flows.
- Help evaluate proposed solutions from a strategic and practical lens.
- Standardization and Alignment
- Contribute to the establishment of digital governance structures and ongoing content management workflows.
- Assist in ensuring that the project remains aligned with UHN’s brand standards, digital strategy, and content is compliant with privacy legislation, web accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA and AAA), and security requirements.
- Review draft designs and content plans to provide feedback and flag potential issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Digital Strategy, UX Design, Communications, Marketing or a related field.
- 6-10 years of experience in digital strategy, content management, or web design within healthcare, public sector, or complex organizations.
- 3-5 years leading and managing direct reports.
- Effective communicator with a collaborative, team-first approach.
- Ability to synthesize complex input and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- Demonstrated involvement in at least one major website redevelopment or digital transformation project.
- Experience with complex digital or web-based initiatives within large, matrixed organizations
- Deep understanding of user-centered design, digital accessibility, enterprise content management, and web development best practices.
- Strong understanding of web usability, accessibility, and content strategy.
