Job Summary:
We are seeking Research Technician II to join newly minted research laboratory at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Our research program is focused on developing innovative research tools for biomedical research and developing novel cancer therapeutics by using advanced protein and antibody engineering technologies. The project will be dynamic and multi-disciplinary, and provide ample learning opportunities. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and highly motivated technician to help us run and maintain the laboratory.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Service Standards Integration: Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of the organization’s Service Standards, seamlessly incorporating them into daily tasks and performance.

Laboratory Operations: Under general supervision, perform basic and advanced laboratory duties, including assisting with ordering and tracking supplies. Responsible for routine technical tasks and the overall maintenance of the laboratory, such as preparing stock reagents, managing inventory, and maintaining laboratory equipment. Execute general techniques in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell culture. Participate in standard laboratory experiments under supervision and assist with experiments following established protocols, meticulously recording results.

Procedure and Protocol Development: Actively contribute to the development and implementation of new procedures and protocols to support experimental work. Engage in recommending and implementing enhancements to existing protocols, consistently maintaining and updating technical knowledge.

Communication and Collaboration: Foster effective communication and cooperation across all levels of the Institute. Listen attentively to others to provide appropriate responses, answer queries, and gather necessary information. Convey ideas, issues, suggestions, and messages promptly and effectively while maintaining the confidentiality of all research information. Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills.

Problem-Solving: Identify and address problems as they arise, applying appropriate policies and procedures to recommend solutions. Seek guidance when necessary, and always ask relevant questions to ensure accuracy. Utilize available resources and references effectively. Notify relevant personnel regarding any situations or problems requiring intervention or follow-up.

Additional Duties: Participate in and perform other related duties as needed, contributing to the success of the team and laboratory operations.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent in Life Sciences (such as Biochemistry, Biology, Immunology, and Bioengineering)
  • Two to three years of experience in conducting research using techniques in biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, or immunology is desirable, but not essential
  • One year or longer of experience with recombinant DNA techniques, protein expression and purification, and/or mammalian cell culture is preferred
  • Introductory-level knowledge of two or more of the following fields: biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, cancer biology, immunology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Willingness and ability to learn new techniques
