Job Description

The Specialist, Talent Recruitment is responsible for developing and executing selection best practices for Uncommon School’s central office and regional teams. This person will also be responsible for managing the recruitment process for Uncommon Schools’ Summer Teaching Fellowship program, which includes coordinating communication, support, and decision making with the CO-CEO’s Team, Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Team, and Talent Recruitment. The Specialist will ensure a dynamic candidate and hiring manager experience–managing candidate screens, interviews, and interview coordination in partnership with various hiring managers. The individual will also provide support across teams and functions as requested.

Central Office Hiring

  • Manage candidate relationships from initial recruitment to offer, and enthusiastically communicate the benefits of working at Uncommon Schools.
  • Partner with hiring managers to facilitate and coordinate hiring kick-off conversations, outreach/selection check-ins, interviews (in-person and virtual), and interview debriefs.
  • Collaborates with hiring managers to provide recruitment subject matter expertise to ensure an equitable and efficient hiring experience.
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and makes recommendations to enhance recruitment systems and practices for Central Office and Regional Team hiring
  • Ensure accurate data in all recruitment systems, including analyzing data to identify and address trends in real-time and refine outreach and selection strategies as needed.
  • Assess all candidates via application review and screening to identify and cultivate strong candidates whose experience aligns with the role's needs and our schools.

Summer Teaching Fellowship (STF) Hiring

  • Hire 60+ candidates for the Fellowship by executing on the recruitment cycle for each cohort and ensuring a strong and efficient candidate experience
  • Monitor and analyze data related to the program in order to optimize and pivot when needed
  • Ensure a high-quality people and talent experience for potential Fellows through constant monitoring and solicitation of feedback through the process
  • Create efficient channels of communication with the DEI team to ensure the STF recruitment process meets the evolving needs of the program
  • Lead step back conversations in order to collaboratively problem solve
  • Extend full-time LOAs to Fellows to become full-time teachers 
  • Collaborate with regional recruiters to place early hires from the STF pipeline in Uncommon’s campuses

  • Ability to learn quickly, take initiative, and incorporate feedback in a multifaceted and results-oriented environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills particularly when communicating with hiring managers.
  • Ability to develop systems that achieve efficiency.
  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 3-5 years of K-12 education or non-profit work experience required; 1-2 years of recruitment selection experience preferred

Compensation for this position: The starting compensation for this role based in New York City is between $74k-$87k and generally, we expect that qualified candidates in this location will be made an offer between $74k and $78k. The starting pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, certification, and location. Because we value staff staying in their roles over time, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
