Job Description

The Business Development Representative is responsible for proactively developing new customers and expanding UTAC’s US certification business while winning new business across Testing, Solutions, and Services. Approximately 50% of the role will focus on developing and selling management system certification services in the United States, with the remaining time focused on creating opportunities for laboratory testing, test-system solutions, and technical services. This is a hunter-focused, individually accountable business development role emphasizing self-generated pipeline, new customer acquisition, and commercial growth. Strong collaboration with UTAC Certification and technical teams is essential. The allocation of time may adjust with business priorities and market demand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a US certification sales plan with target accounts, prospecting priorities, and measurable growth objectives.

  • Identify and win certification opportunities with automotive suppliers, manufacturers, and other organizations within UTAC’s approved certification scope.

  • Promote management system certification services, including IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001, as applicable to customer needs and approved service availability.

  • Build relationships with quality, compliance, EHS, operations, purchasing, and executive stakeholders to identify certification needs and buying timelines.

  • Pursue initial certification, eligible transfers, recertification, and additional site or standard opportunities in coordination with UTAC Certification.

  • Gather customer application and site information and coordinate with the certification team on eligibility, scope, quotation, auditor availability, and customer handoff.

  • Generate new opportunities through consistent outbound prospecting, targeted outreach, customer visits, referrals, networking, industry events, and timely lead follow-up; build a measurable self-sourced pipeline.

  • Win new customers and expand into new sites, divisions, programs, and technical groups within existing accounts across Testing, Solutions, and Services.

  • Sell laboratory testing programs, test equipment and integrated test solutions, and service, maintenance, upgrade, and engineering opportunities aligned with UTAC capabilities.

  • Work with lab and business-unit leaders to prioritize opportunities that improve capacity utilization, support profitable growth, and match available resources.

  • Qualify customer needs, technical scope, budgets, timing, decision-makers, and purchasing processes before initiating quotation activity.

  • Own opportunities from discovery and capability presentations through quotation follow-up, commercial negotiation, and close, within UTAC approval requirements.

  • Coordinate with Applications, Operations, Certification, and quoting teams to develop accurate proposals and realistic delivery commitments.

  • Identify appropriate cross-selling opportunities while protecting certification impartiality; do not promise certification outcomes, provide prohibited certification consultancy, or influence audit or certification decisions.

  • Maintain timely and accurate Salesforce records, including contacts, activities, opportunity values, forecast dates, probabilities, and next steps.

  • Achieve agreed new-business, sales-order-intake (SOI), and qualified-pipeline objectives; report prospecting activity, conversion, forecasts, pursuit updates, and market intelligence to sales leadership.

  • Coordinate with US Marketing and global commercial teams on campaigns, customer introductions, and industry events that generate qualified opportunities.

  • Ensure a clear handoff of awarded work and customer commitments to the responsible delivery team and support ongoing account growth.

  • Assist in supporting the UTAC culture and values (Integrity, Expertise, and Innovation) and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, a technical discipline, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of technical sales or business development experience preferred, with a demonstrated record of winning new customers and meeting sales targets.

  • Experience selling management system certification, third-party auditing, or related testing, inspection, and certification services strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and relevant ISO management system standards, certification cycles (initial, surveillance, recertification and eligible transfers), and customer purchasing drivers; ability to learn UTAC’s approved scope and current IATF rules.

  • Experience in automotive, mobility, manufacturing, laboratory testing, test systems, or technical services is highly desirable.

  • Documented success opening new accounts and generating self-sourced pipeline through outbound activity, referrals, market development and expansion into new sites or divisions.

  • Strong consultative selling, opportunity qualification, quotation management, commercial negotiation, and closing skills.

  • Ability to translate technical capabilities into clear customer value and engage effectively with quality, engineering, operations, purchasing, and executive stakeholders.

  • Proficiency with Salesforce or a comparable CRM and Microsoft Office; commitment to accurate pipeline management and forecasting.

  • Strong communication, presentation, relationship development, organization, and follow-through skills.

  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with the ability to manage priorities independently and collaborate across local and global teams.

  • Sound commercial judgment and a commitment to customer confidentiality, professional conduct, and certification impartiality.
