The UK Government has established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd., a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to lead the charge in delivering fusion energy through design and delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) protype fusion plant. UKIFS is establishing itself, setting up the company, attracting talent, engaging with industry, developing a supply chain, and planning and constructing of the STEP prototype.
Fusion energy, crucial for combating climate change and ensuring energy independence, is expected to be commercially viable by mid-century. The UK, led by UKIFS, aims for a prototype fusion plant, targeting first operations around 2040. UK Industrial Fusion Solutions Ltd. will lead delivery, collaborating with industrial partners and building a fusion supply chain with an estimated global sector value of £7tn per year. The salary for this role is £67,023(inclusive of a Market Premium Payment (MPP) of £7,300), and onsite working is expected for 60% each week.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) , including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.
The Role
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference on a global scale? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy as Senior Project Manager in the field of fusion energy. In this role you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of project managers to ensure the successful planning and execution of all projects carried out at the site in support of site development. You will engage with other STEP programme areas and stakeholders to ensure that all projects are identified and planned to meet overall programme requirements; you will ensure that all projects are executed within budget and on time in a safe and effective manner by applying best-in-class project management techniques; you will be part of the STEP Senior Leadership Team and will contribute to all initiatives and programme requirements.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure adequate resourcing for the site Project Management team, taking into account overall programme plans.
- Provide effective leadership and management to ensure a competent, motivated and integrated team.
- Provide oversight, guidance and career development opportunities for project managers at the site.
- Be a member of the STEP Leadership Team and ensure effective communication with the site project team.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- A university degree in a Engineering subject or equivalent experience
- Experience in project management in the engineering/construction sector.
- An excellent attitude towards safety, with knowledge of UK HSE regulations.
- Experience of contract management.
- Ability to plan multiple projects and control budgets and schedules.
- Ability to lead teams to consistently exceed goals and expectations.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience of Portfolio Management, managing a team of Project Managers.
- Project management accreditation (APM, PMI, etc).
- Knowledge of NEC 4
