The salary for this role is £54,376 (inclusive of a Market Premium Payment (MPP)) , and onsite working is expected for 2 days each week

This is based at Culham, Oxfordshire  

This permenant role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As Senior Integrated Modeller and Code Developer, you will play a pivotal role in:

  • Lead, propose, and carry out projects to exploit the JINTRAC core-SOL-divertor coupled transport code and its integrated models for e.g. JET, MAST-U, ITER, JT-60SA, and STEP:
  •  Develop viable whole-discharge tokamak operational scenarios;
  •  Perform predictive and interpretive core transport simulations for tokamak plasmas using codes like JETTO with state-of-the-art transport models (e.g. TGLF, NEO, and other advanced models)

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform core-edge coupled simulations with JINTRAC and analyse the results;
  • Exploit codes to understand existing experimental results relating to transport and confinement, validate new physics models, and perform cross-code benchmarks;
  • Contribute to the advancement of core/edge transport codes, and work with code developers to develop/implement advanced tokamak physics and transport models;

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in plasma physics.
  • Experience in running integrated simulation codes within different frameworks and on different platforms.
  • Experience in using simulations for code validation and tokamak plasma scenario development.
  • Excellent team player with an outward-facing work-ethos as they will work closely with scientists from around the world.
