Sr. Staff/Staff Design Strategist, Design Strategy (Remote, U.S.)
- Full-time
Company Description
Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. For us, life's not about a job, it's about purpose. We believe real change starts with conversation. Here, your voice matters. Come as you are and together we'll do what's right (not what's easy) to serve the public conversation.
Job Description
Design Strategy at Twitter is part of the Product Design organization and operates like a team of internal strategy consultants that help our teams approach complex and ambitious product experience challenges.
You might identify as a seasoned digital product strategist, someone who is experienced across a broad range of digital projects, including product visioning, journey mapping and service design, maybe even some brand strategy. You tend to be equally business-minded and user-focused, analytical and compassionate in mining and translating insights that matter most into creative fuel.
You have a broad toolkit to draw from and you’re experienced in taking the lead and leading others to move a project forward. At the same time, you hold yourself and those your team in a project accountable to bringing “usable” strategy to the table for cross-functional partners to build from. You’re also an effective partner in supporting your team and partners clients from discovery and conceptualization to roadmapping and experimentation.
Cutting to the chase, here’s how we hope you are awesome:
- Fast and curious. You bring curiosity, empathy, and energy to solve strategic challenges. You’re also comfortable with ambiguity and have the determination to push forward in spite of it.
- Juggle this. You put user needs first, always, right there alongside business goals, and the team’s needs, all at once.
- Listen and learn. You (really) listen to data and customers to explore possible solutions. You also listen to your teammates and believe in 1+1=3.
- Focus pocus. You can see the forest and pick the right trees to focus on.
- Storytime! You believe in the power of storytelling and seek to build memorable, momentum-building work that people remember and rally behind
- Feedback is gold. You believe feedback is a gift best given and received, and you’re good at giving it and taking it.
- Multilingual partner-speak. You’re sensitive to the unique challenges and priorities of cross-functional roles and organizational levels, and can communicate effectively across layers and functions.
- POV that. You have strong opinions. You’re not afraid to express them. You’re also not afraid to be challenged and change them, if they turn out to be wrong, which, let’s be honest, can happen.
- You have fans. Designers, product owners, developers, and people in general, love working with you.
Here are some more things we’re looking for you to be awesome at:
- Hunter-gatherer. You base your well-rounded perspective on insight and research with an ability to rapidly intake, synthesize, and translate data into digestible and usable artifacts.
- Workshop enthusiast. You love a good workshop. You’re perfectly comfortable leading a room, creating alignment in real-time, and crafting new and inventive ways to engage a group productively to get at the heart of what we’re trying to solve.
- The end-game. You demonstrate quality of thinking and clarity of thought in your recommendations. Your partners benefit from the momentum of the work and the company benefits from the buy-in we generate.
- Team “we”. Your default is for “we” instead of “me” and you are passionate about shared impact and collective wins.
- The coach and player. You are equally effective at crafting the work as you are guiding, leading, and mentoring the work and other team members.
Qualifications
The list:
- You’ve done this before. At least 10 years in agency or digital consulting, or an in-house innovation team. This just gives us some context to the number of reps you’ve had in this work.
- Fancy docs. MBA or HCD studies are plusses, not required.
- Digital Product-Person. + if you’ve been a digital product manager before and know the inner workings and methodologies required to build, lead, and maintain a digital product.
- The obvious. Complete proficiency in the usual tools: Google Drive Suite (Slides, Docs, Sheets, etc.), Slack; Comfort with digital workshopping tools like Mural and FigJam. Experience with design tools, e.g. Figma is a plus.
Let’s face it, you’re awesome, we’re awesome. Maybe we can be awesome together. Is this you? Don’t overthink it. Reach out. Nothing bad will happen.
Requirements:
Minimum of 7+ years driving strategic research projects at an agency, consultancy, or in-house
Bachelor's Degree (minimum requirement); MS or PhD in Organizational Psychology, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Statistics, Social Science or related field preferred
A track record of thought leadership and delivering research to inform business, marketing and product development strategies and roadmaps
Experience or interest working with different software products and services, development methodologies, productivity tools
Passionate interest in Twitter’s products and mission
