The Privacy Tooling team is chartered to build products that enable seamless privacy implementation across Twitter products, services, and platforms in the most efficient and productive fashion. The team works to ensure that Twitter builds products and systems which respect users and keep our promises (and regulatory obligations). This team innovates the idea of privacy tooling and services anticipating current and future needs, providing our product engineers the ability to respect privacy while improving the Twitter user experience.
As a Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to design and build tools, infrastructure, and frameworks to support the diverse needs of how we respect customer privacy. We place emphasis on becoming more efficient, reducing risk to the organization, and respectfully meeting our customer obligations. You will work closely with a variety of teams including Product Management, Privacy Engineers, Data Governance, etc.

What you will do:
- Build and maintain our privacy platform to provide flexible solutions for achieving privacy at scale.
- Gain an in-depth understanding of our platform, influence product features and decisions by bringing feedback and feature requests from users, ensuring that our users are fully exploiting the platform’s capabilities for their privacy use cases.
- Drive goals and technical direction to pursue opportunities that make your larger organization more efficient.
- Understand industry & company-wide trends in privacy to help assess & develop new technologies
- Lead long term technical vision and roadmap for large cross-company efforts
- Partner closely with the privacy infrastructure team to build and scale our products.
- Identify specific, high-impact opportunities to build privacy platform
- Design and prototype new algorithms, optimization methods, and system architectures.
- Build cross-functional relationships to shape long-term roadmaps with a balance of technical rigor and strategic considerations.
- Develop patent applications, white papers, conference presentations, and publications that are broadly appealing and accessible beyond a core scientific audience
Qualifications
- MS or Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or similar domain
- 7+ years in a hands-on engineering role, writing and shipping high-quality production code, especially highly reliable and scalable distributed systems.
- Expert level programming experience, experience with at least one of the following languages: Scala, Java, and/or any JVM-based language.
- Experience with modern web technology like ES6, React, Redux, etc.
- Experience debugging in a data-heavy environment (e.g. Hadoop, Spark).
- Experience with working on cloud technologies like GCP and AWS.
- Proven track record of planning multi-year roadmap in which shorter-term projects ladder to the long-term vision
- Experience in driving large cross-functional/industry-wide engineering efforts
- Significant experience with building large-scale full-stack applications and operating at scale
