Who We Are:

Data is fundamental to a lot of product development at Twitter whether it is to enable personalized ML products, or for monitoring and improving the reliability of our products, or to allow self-serve analytics & data-driven decisions from the tactical to the most strategic level. Twitter has a rich variety of data sources including text, media, graph etc which interact with each other in a complex manner. These data sources capture interests & conversations (in billions) from our users (in hundreds of millions) about real-world events, topics and entities (in tens of millions) on a daily basis. In addition to the massive scale, the real-time nature of Twitter requires processing and leveraging this data in a timely manner. 

Data Platform org is the core team at Twitter for building a world-class data platform which enables our developers (including engineers, product managers, executives, designers, researchers, data scientists) to harness the full power of data in a responsible manner. In the Data Platform org we build and operate technologies for data storage, management, and processing at scale, along with core applications that use those technologies. We own the full data processing and operations stack, including:

  • Core compute, data management, and offline storage infrastructure

  • Compute and storage abstraction libraries

  • Scheduling and data abstraction services

  • Core metrics and application services

  • Data quality

Job Description

What You’ll Do

  • Mentor the professional development of direct reports, managers and senior ICs, through personal and performance management. Build diverse and distributed teams and collaborative environments.

  • Build strong relationships with the customer teams & actively understand & partner with them. Enroll customers into co-developing/adopting our solutions to meet their needs.

  • Work with customers, partners, and leadership to define Twitter's data platform vision and strategy and to integrate it into the overall company strategy.

  • Communicate expectations, feedback and context to team members, partners and stakeholders early and often, succinctly and with empathy.

Who you are

  • You have a strong background and experience in data platform and are comfortable participating in technical discussions. You seek diverse perspectives to drive bottom-up innovation and create buy-in from all technical stakeholders inside and outside the team.

  • You are skilled at coaching and guiding your directs, ICs and managers, through their career development. You’re a strong people manager and have experience growing managers to the next level. 

  • You believe in building both teams and products that scale. You care about setting up healthy distributed teams and collaborative environments.

  • You have a passion for taking a customer-driven approach to building high-quality software. You take pride in owning & maintaining what you have built.

  • You’re adept at communicating & collaborating with the executive leadership and cross-org & cross-functional partners. You have a strong focus on disciplined execution and results.

 

Requirement

  • 5+ years of experience managing large teams (e.g., 60 people or more).

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS or related field is desired.
