Overview

As a Community Strategist you'll shape how Twitter connects with community members, representing and advocating for them to help create healthy and fun places for people to discuss and follow along with their interests. .

Reporting to the head of Curation, this role will be embedded in our communities team, working alongside Engineering, Product, Design and Research to build a vibrant, diverse and exciting destination for Twitter customers who want to discuss and follow along with their interests.

The communities team mission is to make it easier for customers to discover, participate, and form conversations with communities that share their interests. People already use Twitter to create community across a wide range of topics and our work builds on this. Protecting the health and safety of the conversation within these communities is top of mind for us.

Curation is on a mission to better facilitate public conversation and bridge the gaps between scaled, automated solutions and the sophisticated needs of the many different groups of people who use Twitter. Twitter’s Curation team sits within its Consumer Product team, which works directly on developing the core Twitter product with our customers in mind.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Working closely with research to identify successful community participants on Twitter and understand their needs

  • Developing an overarching community strategy that will allow Twitter to grow and better engage this group

  • Collaborating with data science and operations to ensure that community efforts are measurable and deliver for both Twitter and community members

  • Designing community systems (e.g. volunteer recruitment/onboarding, reward structures, engagement plans) that reward successful community organisers

  • Working cross-functionally to establish an "always on" engagement program including communication, training and community events/conferences

  • Translating product insights from community organisers to help product teams to improve Twitter’s offerings

  • Developing global expansion plans that navigate language and cultural differences to ensure healthy communities worldwide

  • Ability to execute on the initial stages of your strategy, as we build our community capabilities

Qualifications

Who You Are

  • Deeply passionate about growing and fairly representing community members through all the ups and downs of community development

  • 6+ years working in digital community strategy, ideally combined with more tactical community management experience

  • A track record of delivering strategic insight and operational excellence in the community space

  • Experience of developing playbooks to support the rollout and implementation of community strategy - preferably with experience of both communities at their earliest stage and highly-scaled, later stage communities

  • Skilled in volunteer management

  • Proficient in the product development process, with the ability to work cross functionally and engage teams with community ideas in a practical and impactful way

  • Skilled communicator that can deliver nuanced feedback both to internal teams and externally to community members

  • Highly data literate, you are comfortable collecting and interpreting data using a variety of methods. You can use this to gain insight into the value of community efforts for the product and the company, as well as identify new opportunities

  • Fluent in English, other language fluency an asset

  • Knowledge of community development outside the US/English-speaking markets is preferred
