Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Cost Manager to support the successful financial management of large-scale data center and mission-critical construction projects. This role will assist with cost planning, budgeting, procurement, change management, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring commercial objectives are achieved while maintaining cost control and transparency.
The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, contractors, consultants, and client teams to monitor project costs, analyze financial performance, and support informed decision-making on complex data center developments.
Key Responsibilities
Activities may vary according to project requirements.
- Support the preparation of cost estimates and cost plans throughout design and construction phases.
- Assist in the development, monitoring, and management of project budgets.
- Prepare and analyze change orders, variations, and cost impacts.
- Review contractor applications, valuations, and payment recommendations.
- Support procurement and tender evaluation processes, including bid analysis and recommendation reports.
- Assist with quantity take-offs, cost benchmarking, and market pricing analysis.
- Participate in value engineering workshops and cost optimization initiatives.
- Track project costs, commitments, forecasts, and cash flow throughout project delivery.
- Prepare regular cost reports, financial forecasts, and variance analyses for internal and client reporting.
- Support risk identification and assessment from a commercial and cost perspective.
- Collaborate with project teams to maintain cost control and budget compliance.
- Attend project meetings and provide cost management updates to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in cost management, quantity surveying, or construction cost control.
- Experience supporting commercial activities on construction, infrastructure, industrial, or data center projects.
- Strong understanding of construction costs, estimating principles, and procurement processes.
- Ability to review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documentation.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commercially aware with strong attention to detail.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
Preferred
- Experience working on data center, mission-critical, industrial, or large-scale construction projects.
- Familiarity with cost management software such as CostX, Cubit, CATO, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of BIM-based quantity take-off tools and digital construction environments.
- Working knowledge of contracts, change management, and construction procurement.
- Progress toward RICS, CIQS, or other professional quantity surveying/cost management certification.
