Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Gateway & Governance to join our Project Management Office in Cairo, Egypt. In this pivotal leadership role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the organization's governance framework and gateway review processes. You will ensure that all projects progress through clearly defined stages with appropriate controls, oversight, and strategic alignment. This position offers the opportunity to shape how the organization manages its project portfolio and drives operational excellence across the enterprise.
- Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive PMO governance framework that aligns with organizational strategy and objectives
- Establish and manage gateway review processes to ensure controlled progression of projects through defined stages and phases
- Define governance policies, procedures, and standards that promote consistency, accountability, and transparency across all projects
- Lead the evaluation and approval of projects at critical gateway points, making decisive recommendations based on strategic fit, resource availability, and risk assessment
- Oversee the development and maintenance of project stage-gate criteria and decision-making protocols
- Manage stakeholder engagement and communication regarding governance decisions and process changes
- Monitor compliance with governance frameworks and identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization
- Provide strategic guidance to project teams on governance requirements and best practices
- Analyze project performance data and metrics to identify trends, risks, and areas for enhancement
- Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure governance processes support organizational priorities and drive successful project delivery
- Build and mentor a governance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging governance methodologies
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a PMO leadership or governance role
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing governance frameworks and stage-gate processes
- Strong knowledge of project portfolio management and strategic project selection
- Demonstrated experience with risk management and compliance oversight
- Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to influence across organizational levels
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with proficiency in data analysis and reporting
- Experience with enterprise project management tools and software platforms
- Knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management methodologies
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management capabilities
- Financial acumen and understanding of budget management and resource allocation
- Preferred: Experience with change management and organizational transformation initiatives
- Preferred: Familiarity with industry-specific compliance and regulatory requirements
- Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar project management certification
