Job Description

Job Purpose

The Safety Lead is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring all Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) activities at the Lucknow project to ensure a safe working environment, compliance with statutory requirements, and prevention of accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents.

Key Responsibilities

HSE Management & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Project HSE Plan in line with company policy, contract requirements, and statutory laws.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Factories Act, Building & Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act, IS codes, DGMS (if applicable), and local safety regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to client and consultant HSE requirements at site.

Risk Assessment & Control

  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) for all construction activities.
  • Ensure implementation of safe work practices for high-risk activities such as:
    • Work at height
    • Lifting operations
    • Electrical works
    • Excavation & trenching
    • Confined space operations
  • Monitor implementation of control measures and PPE usage.

Site Safety Supervision

  • Conduct daily site safety inspections and toolbox talks.
  • Stop unsafe acts or conditions and ensure immediate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with construction teams, subcontractors, and supervisors to maintain safety standards.

Training & Awareness

  • Conduct induction training for all new employees, visitors, and subcontractors.
  • Organize regular toolbox talks, safety campaigns, mock drills, and awareness programs.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across the project.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences.
  • Prepare incident investigation reports with root cause analysis.
  • Ensure implementation and tracking of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accident statistics and submit daily/weekly/monthly HSE reports.

Audits & Inspections

  • Conduct internal HSE audits and support client, statutory, and third-party audits.
  • Ensure timely closure of audit findings and compliance observations.

Documentation & Records

  • Maintain all HSE documentation including:
    • Safety permits
    • PPE records
    • Training records
    • Inspection checklists
    • Accident/incident reports
  • Ensure proper display of safety signage and emergency information at site.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:

    • Degree / Diploma in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical preferred)
    • Degree/Diploma in Industrial Safety (mandatory)
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 8–12 years of overall HSE experience
    • At least 3–5 years as Safety Lead / HSE Head on large construction or infrastructure projects
  • Certifications (Preferred):

    • NEBOSH IGC / IOSH / ADIS
    • First Aid, Fire Fighting, and Emergency Response Training

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices and Indian safety laws
  • Excellent incident investigation and risk assessment skills
  • Leadership and team coordination capability
  • Good communication and training skills
  • Proficient in safety reporting and MS Office tools
  • Ability to handle audits and client interactions confidently

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Zero fatal accidents and reduction in LTIFR
  • Safety compliance score during audits
  • Timely closure of safety observations
  • Effective implementation of training programs
