Job Description
Role Purpose
Turner & Townsend is seeking a highly capable Senior MEP Estimator / Cost Consultant to support the successful delivery of large, complex data centre projects for global clients. The role will provide expert mechanical and electrical cost advice across all stages of the project lifecycle, from early feasibility through procurement and delivery.
You will operate in a client-facing consultancy role, supporting strategic decision-making, driving commercial performance, and reinforcing Turner & Townsend’s position as a trusted partner in the mission‑critical sector.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Management & Estimating
- Support the creation of high-quality MEP cost estimates and cost plans from RIBA Stage 0–5
- Create analysis costs using Turner & Townsend data, market intelligence, and industry trends
- Evaluate cost drivers, escalation, inflation, and risk allowances appropriate to data centre projects
Data Centre Technical Advisory
- Provide cost input and commercial advice on complex MEP systems, including:
- MV/LV electrical infrastructure
- UPS systems, generators, and fuel resilience strategies
- Cooling systems (air, liquid cooling, chilled water, DX, and hybrid solutions)
- BMS, EPMS, ICT, and life‑safety systems
- Support option studies, resilience strategies (N+1 / 2N), and value engineering exercises
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, developers, and internal delivery teams
- Clearly communicate cost risks, opportunities, and recommendations
- Participate in client meetings, workshops, and presentations
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with designers, contractors, and supply chain partners
Project Controls & Reporting
- Contribute to cost reporting, cash flow forecasting, and cost‑to‑complete assessments
- Support risk management and change control processes
- Ensure consistency of reporting in line with Turner & Townsend best practice and governance frameworks
People & Capability Development
- Support and mentor junior team members
- Review and provide feedback on estimates prepared by others
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating methodologies, tools, and data
Qualifications
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong working knowledge of MEP systems within data centre or mission‑critical environments
- Proven experience delivering MEP estimates within a consultancy or contractor setting
- Solid understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and commercial risk
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Desirable
- Experience on hyperscale or colocation data centre developments
- Familiarity with cost estimating software (e.g. CostX) and advanced Excel
- Experience working with BIM-based information
Qualifications & Professional Membership
- Preferred degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Building Services Engineering, or related disciplines
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
