Job Description

 

Turner & Townsend seeks a Director of Construction Project Management Design and Industrialization to join our team in the Memphis, TN area to support a newly built battery manufacturing facility. This individual will be overseeing the project design process and industrialization of the production line throughout the project life cycle.  

  

Director Responsibilities:  

 

  • Direct oversight of design and the production process for our battery manufacturing client.
  • Financial management – Ensuring prompt client invoicing and utilizing the financial system to monitor a project’s financial status. 
  • Project planning, including producing a detailed project plan. 
  • Work with and overseeing the A/E firms on design evolution and drawing reviews.  
  • Managing the flow of project information between the team and the client, through regular meetings and written communications. 
  • Work with the general contractors on procurement bid package reviews, recommendations, order submissions, tracking and invoice approval.  
  • Preparing formal project budget progress and other reports. 
  • Manage the resourcing of staff with project workload.  
  • If support is needed in the wider business, construct bids for new work in concert with business generation and senior management.  
  • Ability to negotiate contract fees ensuring profitable outcomes for Business Unit.  
  • Provide weekly updates regarding the status of projects, initiatives, and staffing, and where appropriate, highlighting issues of concern, and/or conflict.  
  • Contribute, as a member of the Senior Management team, to the creation and implementation of strategic and financial plans focused on the growth and development of the Business Unit.  
  • Prepare and deliver client presentations on topics of relevant experience and knowledge and/or partnering with other team members to generate new business.  
  • Attend relevant networking events and promotional opportunities.  
  • Process Improvement-Improve cost management procedures, templates, products and strive to continuously improve the services provided to clients.  
  • Knowledge Management-Ensure that key knowledge and learning generated from each commission is effectively managed and captured in the Turner & Townsend internal database.  
  • Financial Management-Utilize the tools provided to track the ongoing margin levels, monthly fee/resource forecasts for each commission and financial reports.  
  • Provide effective line management to Associate Directors, Senior Consultants and Consultants.  
  • Coach and mentor staff, assisting them to achieve professional designations and career growth objectives.  
  • Ensure the development of priority plans including risk mitigation, performance measurements, management controls and critical success factors.  
  • Ensure client invoices are accurate and issued on a timely basis. Following up on accounts receivable.  

Qualifications

 

  • Experience managing a local team and direct reports.  
  • General line management operational responsibilities.  
  • Experience managing construction projects of large manufacturing facilities, or relatable experience. 
  • Proven track record of delivering high quality project management services across the full project lifecycle. 
  • Ability to advise at a strategic level during the project conception stage, including providing advice on the different approaches that can be adopted to successfully achieve the client’s overall objectives. 
  • Great time management skills. Ensure that the project is managed to the right quality standards, completed efficiently and on time. 
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and cross-functional team members. 
  • Experienced working as an effective team member within the context of delivering a specific commission. 
  • Business development opportunities with existing and new clients, including cross-selling opportunities, are identified. 
  • Key information and data are effectively shared and appropriately retained. 

 

Education / Experience:  

 

  • +10 years of relevant technical and leadership experience overseeing major construction projects or programs.  
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in civil engineering or construction management.  
  • Prior experience as a people manager.
