Job Description
The Role
Our teams in our Yorkshire region and the North East, comprising of our Leeds and Sheffield, Teesside and Newcastle offices, are at the heart of the most complex and interesting programmes taking place in the region today, shaping the infrastructure and real estate investment that supports the regional economy. Flagship programmes we are currently delivering include the regeneration of Kirklees town centre, York City Housing Programme, clients such as SABIC, and the wider regeneration of Newcastle and the North East.
Working closely with our senior leadership team across the wider region, the business generation manager will be responsible for driving growth within the Infrastructure and Real Estate sectors through positioning, bidding, brand enhancement, pipeline generation and key account management.
In addition to the regional role, the successful candidate will also be supporting business generation activities for our Advisory business in the region, which provides strategic consultancy to our key clients and sectors.
This is a hands-on role – you will need to lead strategically, be able to conduct face to face meetings with clients and prospects, be able understand and articulate propositions, develop and manage a pipeline of brand promotion activities, manage complex bids, and support our key account managers to create endearing relationships with our clients.
This role requires an ability to see the bigger picture along with a determination to exceed expectations and to always deliver.
This is a key position within both the regional team, responsible for driving growth and key strategic business initiatives, and leading work winning transformation across the region.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include, but not be limited to:
- Understanding and translating our business strategy into a clear business generation strategy.
- Understand how to win work, identify opportunities in the market place and secure face to face appointments with key decision makers and buyers.
- Identifying key market trends, translating these into campaigns and ensuring they are effectively delivered.
- Developing our pipeline of brand raising activities and events to ensure we maintain a strong profile with both our current and target clients.
- Manage the production of key marketing collateral working with sector and key account leaders.
- Generating a drumbeat of news to provide consistent internal and external profile.
- Champion our Bid to Win strategy, approach and toolkit and its use across the team.
- Create discipline and best practice around client positioning, conversion success factors, including win themes, bid planning and management.
- Generate pipeline reports and hold the operational teams to account on quality of pursuits and bids.
- For strategic opportunities, facilitate the development of the pursuit team and approach, support/manage bid teams and contribute to the written proposal, both content and presentation – setting a high standard and coaching teams where required.
- Support our key account managers to develop and articulate new propositions for our clients.
- Support and champion national Business Generation initiatives both within your own team and nationally as appropriate.
- Lead key marketing meetings to drive ongoing marketing activity across key sectors and clients.
- Travel between all 4 offices.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Recognised professional qualification or equivalent experience in the required skills areas, which may be a degree or qualification in marketing, communications or business administration. Level of experience of similar and candidate aptitude is, however, more important.
Key Skills and Knowledge
- Professional services background, ideally within construction or the built environment
- Knowledge of the UK real estate and infrastructure markets
- Knowledge and understanding of Sales Navigator / LinkedIn to target and track prospects
- Ability to develop and convert a pipeline of sales leads and opportunities working with key directors within the business to secure work
- Strong verbal and written communication writing skills
- Self-starter – must be able to operate on their own initiative, and prioritise effectively
- Strong communicator - able to engage with confidence at all levels of the business
- Works well with teams – both as a leader or team member
- Able to work at pace, supporting a fast-moving business with dynamic opportunities
