Job Description

 

Turner & Townsend has an immediate need for a Major Projects Lead responsible for strategy development & execution of LCS projects across the US and the Gulf Coast region for an international oil and gas client, ensuring achievement of established client and internal strategic business objectives.

Key project delivery focus areas include safety stewardship, scope, budget, schedule, and quality and risk management. Also associated with field drilling sites, which aligns with some carbon capture strategies.

Characteristics of responsible projects include high complexity, high risk for a long term project valued at $5M or higher.  Ideal location for this role is north Houston with some travel & oversight of on-site third party project teams.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Conducts periodic site visits to monitor the progress of construction, review status of work completed during the period covered, review that work is generally proceeding in a safe, good and workmanlike manner and in general accordance with the approved drawings and specifications, as well as client safety program.
  • Manages and leads project management staff in the US Gulf Coast region and ensures thorough staff understanding and implementation of safety requirements, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Formally supervises individual employees against established performance objectives.  Responsible for setting performance goals, coaching, training, and motivating direct reports and work group.  
  • Directly or indirectly responsible for hiring, terminating, compensation, and performance evaluation for direct reports and work group.
  • Supports regional project reports, stewards account specific KPIs and contributes to overall program enhancements. 
  • Performs training, on-going mentoring and direct management of a group of staff members including review of work, overview of workloads and preparation of performance evaluations.
  • Interfaces directly with clients to ensure team is delivering against established expectations and to explore/implement opportunities for program enhancement.   
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of projects & project management within the context of business results (business case, larger economic implications, business risk, etc).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides formal supervision to individual employees within single functional or operational area.
  • Approves subordinate's recommendations for staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action and termination.
  • Effectively recommends same for direct reports to next level management for review and approval.
  • Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime. Prepares and delivers performance appraisal for staff.
  • Mentors and coaches team members to further develop competencies.
  • Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values. Ensures team effectively manages 3rd party project delivery resources/team (typically larger more experienced team).
  • Responsible for identifying training needs, tracking performance, coaching, and motivating team members.

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS/BEng/BArch) from College or University in a technical area of study.
  • Minimum eight years of related experience and/or training. Prior experience in a supervisory position (direct report responsibilities) required..
  • Experience in oil and gas or similar industry with intensive safety programs preferred.

 

Certificates and Licenses

 

  • PMP (US and/or Canada) and LEED AP preferred.
