Who are you?

You are an experienced Quantity Surveyor with 15+ years post-graduate experience looking for the next step or are currently undertaking a similar role in a similar environment.

Purpose

The role of the Pipeline Construction QS is to provide the LNG Canada Pipeline Construction Team real time information regarding field performance of the pipeline project including confirmation of on-site resource availability, weather and ground conditions, readiness for upcoming activities, bottlenecks and successes and progress against selected Key Focus Areas (KFA’s).

A key part of the role will be the maintenance of accurate records including highlighting any inaccuracies in reporting produced by other parts of the project.

The role is twofold:

1. Monitor and confirm progress against plans and KFA’s, verification of data to support claimed progress and maintenance of records that may assist with verification of claims.

2.  Assess and validate readiness to execute planned activities and KFA’s on a rolling 3 month look ahead to recover (as required), maintain or exceed planned progress in line with the approved baseline schedule.

Job Description

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved in but not limited to:

  • Provision of timely and accurate status reporting on progress and forward planning. This will require balancing time at the work sites, assessing and challenging planning and reporting. It is generally expected that at least 70% of the work week will be at the work site (ROW) / travel to or from the work site (ROW) with the remaining 30% office (Camp) based.
  •  Prepare and issue a summary Daily Progress Report (DPR) summarizing the previous day’s activities, set-backs, limitations and resource restrictions by 07:00 MT.
  • Prepare and issue a Weekly Status Report (WSR) summarizing areas of success and concern and proposed mitigations by 07:00 on  Monday.
  • Supply any additional information required for LNGC reporting and analysis that is not included in the DPR / WSR. Note the DPR / WSR will be in addition to reporting received directly from the pipeline constructor.
  •  Attend as far as  possible meetings held between project team’s contractors where these occur on site / (ROW or Camp). These will include section progress, quality and HSSE meetings. The attendance at meetings to be balanced against the 70 / 30 site / office split.

Logistics:

The incumbent will be required to operate a vehicle in order to access areas along the ROW. Defensive driving training will be required as a condition of work and daily Journey Plans are to be submitted using the Pipeline Contractor JM system.

The LNG Canada Construction Leads (East / West) will make frequent visits to site, part of the QS role will be to facilitate these visits and transport to / from the ROW to share observations and validate KFA progress.

Rotation – Initially 3 weeks on site 1 week rotation leave.

 

Qualifications

  • Education/Training:
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Construction Management. RICS, PMI, AACEI, etc. would be an asset
  • Pipeline inspection experience/ education would be an asset

Experience:

  • Extensive experience with onshore pipeline construction , e.g. at least 15 years specific pipeline project experience
  • Knowledge of planning and resource management required to execute remote area pipeline construction
  • Knowledge of claims management and defence
  • Ability to interpret and summarize information quickly and accurately
  • Expertise in developing graphics to highlight progress and areas requiring attention
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good record keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Degree level qualification however vocational qualifications may be accepted for candidates with extensive expertise
  • WorkSafe BC certification as required
