Position Summary:

The Senior Compliance Specialist provides the proactive and vital support necessary to ensure that the organization maintains a robust compliance program.  You will work directly with regulatory agencies to ensure reporting compliance with applicable laws and regulations and collaboratively with internal departments to develop and implement processes and policies that incorporate appropriate legal and regulatory standards.  You will assist in identifying and mitigating compliance risks and develop effective compliance procedures and processes that appropriately reflect Trupanion’ high ethical standards and overall business objectives.

If you live in the greater Seattle area, you will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 3 days a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Process state-mandated regulatory filings and fees including the completion of filing forms and supporting documentation, as appropriate.
  • Research and compile data for DOI exams, investigations, audits, and other company efforts.
  • Design and maintain tracking and data collection spreadsheets, dashboards, and/or reporting tools.
  • Monitor and audit business activities, documents, and processes to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with various Trupanion departments, including legal, to address compliance concerns and ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Stay up to date on changing laws and regulations and update company policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Investigate compliance with any violations, irregularities, or complaints and collaborate on appropriate corrective actions.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Prepare and submit accurate and detailed compliance reports to management and regulatory authorities.
  • Mentor other Compliance Specialist staff and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years' work experience in compliance, legal or government agency
  • Prior work experience with insurance required
  • Property & casualty insurance regulations preferred.
  • Compliance or insurance certifications (CRCM, CCEP, etc.) desired

  • Understands the value of process adherence and can successfully complete detail-oriented processes
  • Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities with varying complexity
  • Business-oriented approach that understands a growth-oriented mono-line pet insurance business
  • A savvy researcher with a high level of proficiency and familiarity reviewing insurance regulations
  • Growth mindset; ability to  learn quickly and be proactive; unafraid to ask questions or respectfully challenge existing practices or the status quo
  • Ability to  work independently on multiple projects, managing time effectively, and meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint) required.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to interact effectively across department lines and with all levels of management.

 

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is $90,000 -$100,000, on a full-time schedule.
  • Additional monthly bonus targets tied to individual and company goals.
  • We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion’s success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members. Our new hire grants vest over 4 years.  Additional discretionary Restricted Stock Units may be awarded on an annual basis for individual and/or team performance.
