Job Description

The Town is seeking a skilled and motivated Supervisor of Utility Operations to lead the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of essential utility and environmental services. Reporting to the Manager of Civic and Municipal Operations, this permanent full-time role plays a key leadership position in the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of water, wastewater, storm drainage, dewatering, and solid waste services. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day supervision of staff and contractors, support capital and operational projects, and ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations—helping to maintain infrastructure critical to the wellbeing and sustainability of the community.

Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate who:

  • Demonstrates strong, collaborative leadership with proven experience coaching, and mentoring diverse teams
  • Brings strong technical knowledge of Water and Wastewater Code of Practice, and Emergency Act, and Water and Wastewater Operators’ Certification Guidelines
  • Understands municipal environmental (solid waste and recycling) programs  
  • Can effectively manage projects, contractors, budgets, and assets while identifying operational efficiencies
  • Has knowledge of procurement, tendering, contract management, and creation of project plans
  • Can interpret Collective Agreements, legislation, policies, procedures, and technical documents
  • Communicates effectively in a professional manner in written and verbal form with the public, contractors, regulatory bodies, and staff
  • Brings professionalism, adaptability, and a commitment to service excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A related post‑secondary degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years directly related experience, including 3 years of progressive supervisory experience
  • Experience with capital and operating budget administration
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered

Asset Qualifications:

  • Alberta Environment Level 3 in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection
  • Designation with the Alberta Public Works Association (APWA) as a Certified Public Works Professional
  • Emergency Management certification to ICS 300 level
  • PMP or CAPM Designation
  • Experience working in a municipal and/or unionized environment

Based on a 35-hour work week, the salary range for this position is $85,267 - $108,472 per annum. The Town offers an excellent 100% employer-paid benefit package, as well as enrollment in the Local Authorities Pension Plan.
