Job Description

As a Field Service Engineer, you’ll ensure the reliable performance of TOMRA’s advanced food-sorting solutions. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize systems across customer sites, providing both technical expertise and exceptional service.

Your responsibilities:

  • Install, commission, and maintain TOMRA sorting equipment at customer sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software issues.
  • Deliver remote and on-site technical support as required.
  • Train customers in proper machine operation and maintenance.
  • Document and submit detailed service reports to support continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with customers and TOMRA teams to achieve high satisfaction levels while ensuring compliance with safety guidelines.

Reporting line: Team Leader Field Service Engineer.

Travel: Up to 80% within South Africa, occasional international visits; flexible schedule required (weekends possible).

Qualifications

Must have:

  • Degree in Electronics, Electrotechnical, Automation, or similar technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience in on-site installation, preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of IT, networking, and PC configuration.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively.
  • Excellent English communication skills (Afrikaans is an advantage).

Nice to have (or learnable in role):

  • Experience within the food industry or sorting technologies.
  • Familiarity with PLCs and basic software troubleshooting.
  • Additional languages are welcome.

  • A competitive compensation package, including a minimum annual base salary starting from 505.000 ZAR gross, depending on experience and qualifications, plus variable compensation and benefits
