Job Description
Join TOMRA Food as a Hardware Engineer in our dynamic R&D team, where you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining our position as a leader in food sorting technology. You'll design cutting-edge electronics for our next-generation machines and provide crucial support for our existing and legacy machines.
Key Responsibilities:
Hardware/Firmware Design, Development and Integration:
- Design, validate, and deploy electronic hardware (analog and digital).
- Hands-on debugging and problem-solving of hardware and firmware designs.
- Special focus on ARM and FPGA-centric designs.
- Develop and integrate high-speed cameras, image processing hardware, laser acquisition systems, motor controllers, actuators and various monitoring and control hardware/firmware.
- Conduct feasibility studies and prototyping.
- Analyse and resolve performance, quality, obsolescence issues in current hardware/firmware.
- Centralise documentation and application information for accessibility across departments.
Teamwork and Collaboration:
- Collaborate within cross-functional and multinational teams to execute development projects.
- Coach and mentor on hardware-related topics.
- Work with colleagues across various different TOMRA offices to share knowledge and standardise designs and processes.
- Present ideas and information effectively to different stakeholders.
Health and Safety:
- Uphold a “Safety first” approach across hardware and firmware design and development.
- Ensure compliance with established processes, procedures, controls and quality assurance standards.
Qualifications
About You:
- Hold a Master’s degree in electronics engineering or possess equivalent experience.
- Proficient in problem-solving, particularly in machine integration challenges.
- Strong skills in digital design, microcontrollers, FPGAs and related architectures.
- Experience in embedded software development using C/C++.
- Experience with PCBA lifecycle support.
- Familiarity with version control systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of Xilinx Vivado or similar FPGA development tools is advantageous.
- Familiarity with scripting languages like Python is considered a plus.
- Self-staring, results-driven mindset with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
- Customer-centric approach and excellent English communication skills.
- Willingness to travel approximately 2-3 days per month.
