Job Description

As a Legal Counsel at Together, you will be part of our Group Legal team and be responsible for proactively managing a high volume/ fast moving portfolio of customer legal claims, the majority of which arise from claims management companies. The role requires you to have experience in volume litigation whilst being pragmatic, commercially minded and solutions focused. 

Working closely with the Head of Litigation and Senior Legal Counsel, you will help shape and implement the Group’s strategic approach to volume claims handling, including the development and continual improvement of processes and litigation strategies. The role will involve regular monitoring, interpretation and presentation of MI, data trends and insights, using these to identify trends to inform decision making and support senior stakeholders. 

There will be some hands-on management of claims to become familiar with the causes of action, processes and risk themes alongside the day-to-day supervision, oversight and guidance to junior colleagues.

You can expect to work collaboratively with colleagues across the business - including Complaints, Risk, Compliance, Recoveries, Operations and senior stakeholders to ensure legal risks are properly understood; managed and aligned with the Group’s overarching strategic and commercial objectives. 

Over time, there is opportunity for the role to broaden into wider areas of contentious and non-contentious legal support, with opportunities to contribute to broader legal initiatives and cross business projects. 

Typical Duties include:

  • Managing a high-volume litigation and claims workload in a structured, efficient and proportionate manner.   
  • Producing and presenting MI, trend analysis and data-driven insights to support strategy and reporting.  
  • Contributing to and helping refine the Group’s strategic approach to volume claims and recurring themes arising from CMC activity.  
  • Providing day-to-day supervision, guidance and quality assurance for junior team members working on claims.  
  • Working closely with the General Counsel, Head of Litigation, senior stakeholders and other members of the Legal team on strategic approach to legal issues 

Qualifications

Candidates with a blend of the following experiences and skills will be highly regarded:

  • Experience managing volume litigation particularly where claims originate from or are driven by claims management companies (CMCs) 
  • Proven ability to handle large caseloads efficiently through pragmatic, structured decision-making.  
  • Experience supervising or supporting junior colleagues, including providing clear expectations, promoting strong time-management-practices ensuring work is delivered on time and to a high standard, as well as conducting day-to-day supervision ensuring consistency.  
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work confidently with MI, data and trend analysis.  
  • Excellent drafting and communication skills with the ability to distil complex issues into straightforward, practical advice.  
  • Experience of proactively developing workflows to streamline operations and reduce risk  
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to set and work to deadlines. 
  • Highly organised, efficient and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Experience dealing with CMC driven or template-based claims is essential.
