Job Description
Major Objectives / Accountabilities:
Operate Class 5 vehicles, including swinglifts and hiabs, in a safe and responsible manner, encompassing truck and trailer units, semi-trailers, and other heavy vehicle combinations as required.
Load, secure, and unload freight/materials following company and industry standards.
Complete daily vehicle checks and maintain logbooks in compliance with NZTA regulations.
Transport goods to and from customer sites, depots, and distribution centers on time.
Follow Health & Safety policies, fatigue management, and road transport legislation.
Report any vehicle faults, incidents, or delays to management.
Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional company image.
Assist with general yard or warehouse duties when required.
Ensure assigned vehicle is kept clean, tidy and well presented.
Operations:
Provide a high level of customer service and professionalism in all dealings with clients, transporters, and external parties.
Maintain all assigned documentation and processes.
Facilitate solution-oriented communication.
Provide cover for other drivers during Leave & Breaks when required.
At all times act in the best interest of the business. Ensure the business reputation, presentation and image is upheld and promoted accordingly in the industry.
Ensure your work areas and shared lunchrooms are kept clean & tidy.
Complete assigned daily, weekly, and monthly task list as agreed with manager.
Carry out routine equipment inspections and maintenance, including but not limited to greasing chains and checking transmission and hydraulic fluid levels, topping up as required.
Any other duties as required.
Health & Safety:
Comply with all HSE legislation, regulation, code of practice, Company policies, procedures, standards, and best practice relevant to your responsibility.
Actively ensure all employees, contractors and visitors on site comply with all Company HSE policies, procedures, and standards.
Understand the role and its safety elements. Behave consistently and always promote a safe work culture.
Qualifications
Education:
NCEA1-3, 2-3 years secondary schooling, class 5 truck license.
Experience:
Approx 3+ years of relevant experience operating Class 5 vehicles in a transport or logistics environment.
Skills:
Highly results oriented, ready to take challenges and able to work under pressure.
Current and clean NZ Class 5 driver’s licence.
Current R, W & T endorsement.
Proven driving experience with truck and trailer units or heavy combination vehicles.
Physically fit – capable of handling loading/unloading tasks.
Strong communication and time management skills.
Safety conscious and have a working understanding of Health and Safety
