Job Description

As our Systems Engineer II, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the seamless availability of our IT infrastructure, encompassing servers, storage, telecommunications, and network components. Tasked with vigilant monitoring of operating environments, you will promptly respond to incidents, tackles problems, and strategically plans for future growth. Impeccable attention is given to ensuring the adherence to up-to-date security, maintenance, and operational protocols. Engaging in all facets of IT project execution, as well as daily IT operations, the role encompasses technical innovation, meticulous change control and documentation, oversight of technology service providers, end-user support, system requirement definition, and various other operational tasks inherent to system maintenance. These responsibilities are executed with a high degree of autonomy, reflecting your proficiency.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Proactively monitor and provide support for servers, storage, telecommunications, and network systems.
  • Ensure the ongoing integrity of systems backups through vigilant monitoring, maintenance, and testing.
  • Effectively manage external vendors/resources, ensuring seamless 24x7x365 support for our IT infrastructure.
  • Execute the IT change control process with precision during critical IT system changes.
  • Play an integral role in executing IT infrastructure procedures as required.
  • Contribute actively to IT projects, from requirement definition and solution research to validation, implementation, and thorough documentation.
  • Skillfully rack and stack servers and IT hardware in our corporate data centers.
  • Innovate by developing and implementing systems that automate IT tasks, bolster security, and prevent service interruptions.
  • Serve as tier-3 (senior level) IT support for local and remote users in both NZ and Fiji, supporting internal customers across the South Pacific.
  • Exercise oversight over all IT-related vessel activities.

This role is based in Parnell, Auckland, and we are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and thrive in a dynamic team environment. We need a confident communicator that can operate at all levels of the business, to ensure we meet the needs of both internal and external customers.  As you can see your interpersonal skills are key. Being adaptable, flexible and a forward thinker will really help you succeed in this role. There will be some local travel as well as the occasional international travel to the Pacific Islands as required. Additionally, occasional evening and weekend commitments are expected, ensuring comprehensive support for both project initiatives and ongoing operational needs.

Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems
  • Valid Full drivers' license.
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience in implementing, supporting, and maintaining data backup systems.
  • Showcase strong technical acumen and adept problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Client and Server Operating Systems.
  • Expertise in Active Directory Administration, covering User, Group, Computer, and Group Policy management.
  • Hands-on experience in the administration of Virtual Machines and Cloud Solutions.
  • Acquire a working knowledge of data center processes and design, encompassing power, cooling, and redundancy.
  • Proven track record in supporting Enterprise IT systems, leveraging both internal and third-party resources.
  • Demonstrate a keen understanding of Enterprise IT best practices related to security, standardization, availability, and support.
  • Possess a high-level understanding of promote-to-production environments and change control processes.
  • Successfully managed projects with minimal supervision.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills, capable of handling multiple projects and assignments concurrently.
  • Hands-on experience in managing a combination of on-prem, hosted, and cloud-based systems.
  • Display a proactive desire to continually learn new technologies and enhance skill sets.
