Job Description
As a Group Depots & Transport Manager, you will play a pivotal role in spearheading our logistics operations and driving success in this ever-evolving industry. You will be responsible for the Health & Safety of all NPDL personnel engaged in Depot and Transport operations (as well as external people). Ensuring strict compliance with regulatory requirements across all geographies is also central to your responsibilities, encompassing vital aspects such as transport regulations, city council mandates, biosecurity measures, DG (Dangerous Goods) compliance, and customs protocols.
Moreover, your role will involve diligently working to minimize operational interruptions at all NPDL sites. This involves implementing robust planning processes to reduce machinery downtime, ensuring adequate resourcing cover, and conducting preventative maintenance of assets. On the other side, driving business profitability will be a key focus, requiring you to proactively increase sales revenue for both internal and external customers, seizing opportunities for improvement where possible.
As the manager of these vital operations, you will hold overall P&L responsibility, overseeing crucial financial aspects such as revenue generation, payroll management, billing processes, container sales, and comprehensive financial reporting. The scope of the role encompasses all geographies where NPDL manages or subcontracts these services. Your commitment and strategic expertise will be central to NPDL's success in delivering top-tier Container Depot and Transport services across diverse regions.
What you will be doing:
- Remaining vigilant and up to date with safety regulations as well as regulatory compliance requirements and legislation, spanning across all sites and operations, to swiftly implement key updates and ensure compliance.
- Strategically managing the appropriate levels of resourcing to effectively oversee all depot and transport operations, including flexible arrangements for after-hours and weekend work when necessary.
- Ensuring optimal maintenance of all depot facilities, workshops, equipment, vehicles, material handling tools, and more. Implementing comprehensive preventive maintenance programs to guarantee peak performance and longevity.
- Exercising comprehensive coordination and control over Container Depots Maintenance and Repair (M&R) activities, including procurement of materials, tools and equipment, infrastructure, engineering, cost estimation, and technical services. All geared towards providing unparalleled services to both internal and external customers.
- Spearheading the coordination and control of all Transport-related activities, including asset management, procurement, M&R activities, transport scheduling, driver availability and training, etc. This meticulous oversight aims to deliver top-level delivery performance for internal and external customers alike.
- Displaying exceptional leadership in the commercial space, driving customer and vendor negotiations to maximise financial outcomes for NPDL.
- Skillfully managing vendor performance, including detailed spend reporting and monitoring deviations from agreed-upon KPIs.
- Ensuring prompt and efficient handling of all related expenses, purchase orders, approvals, invoices, and payments, adhering strictly to agreed KPI timelines.
Qualifications

- A seasoned leader with previous experience in the shipping, logistics and transport industry, demonstrating exceptional leadership acumen including P&L ownership.
- Specific and proven expertise in overseeing transport and container depots, with a track record of success in similar roles knowing what “good looks like” in terms of safety and regulatory compliance.

- Highly proficient in MS Office, with stress on Excel, as well as PowerPoint and Outlook, leveraging these tools to enhance efficiency and productivity.
This is a full-time permanent role based in Auckland, requiring regular travel to the Pacific islands.
