Job Description

We are seeking a Strategic Asset Manager to help convert the institution’s strategic direction and mission into strategic asset management objectives and strategies.
Reporting to the Associate Director – Facilities, the Strategic Asset Manager provides strategic advice on asset management to the senior executives across three key asset portfolios – Property, Digital and Research & Teaching. We are looking for someone with the high-level experience required to communicate an inspired and compelling vision and sense of core purpose that motivates and inspires stakeholders regarding Asset Management.
The Strategic Asset Manager is integral to providing a safe and secure environment for the University community to minimise the risk of harm to staff, students and visitors and the risk of interruption to University business.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Lead the integrated Asset Management Team to provide strategic, tactical and operational asset management support and training to ensure efficient and effective lifecycle management.
- Develop and review strategic asset management documents and related policies, frameworks and guides to ensure good asset management practices across the University’s asset portfolios.
- Ensure that all asset data & information is recorded, audited and appropriate actions taken to minimise risk to people and property.
- Conduct Asset Risk Assessments throughout the University Campuses to ensure that high risk areas are identified, and appropriate measures applied using both technical and non-technical resources.
- Lead the development and implementation of the continuous improvement initiatives around strategic, tactical and operational asset management and the levels of services delivered by key asset portfolios
- Emergency Response Management including taking an active role during any critical incidents/emergencies and review of Emergency Operational procedures.
- Contract Management including audit of asset-related service contracts to ensure quality of staff and services are met.

You will be joining one of Auckland’s largest property teams with an extensive property portfolio. We have over 200 buildings, from our newly built recreation centre to accommodation blocks, heritage sites and much more. You will join our facilities team, which is responsible for keeping our buildings running and ensuring that our students and staff have the best possible environments.
About you | He kōrero mōu
We are looking for a qualified senior Asset Management specialist with significant experience leading and influencing large and diverse teams within complex asset portfolios and the personal attributes to inspire and lead across the University. Key attributes for this role include excellent communication and negotiation skills, the ability to build relationship with stakeholders across all levels, ability to work under pressure and most of all to be a key contributor and team player across project teams.
We are seeking | E rapua ana mātou
- A relevant tertiary qualification (Bachelor’s and/or Master’s) in management, engineering, architecture or property.
- Broad or working knowledge of asset management best practice guidelines like ISO55001 and training and certifications relevant to Asset Management such as IPWEA (Āpōpō) AM foundation courses or Asset Management Council’s certification scheme etc
- Strong communication skills, the ability to write formal reports, and a functional understanding of Excel spreadsheets (graphing, trending, etc.).
- Experience with engaging, reviewing and supervising consultants and contractors. As well as the ability to partake in asset/building discussions with confidence and knowledge.
- Experience in governing and leading the fields of property, research and digital asset management, preferably in a tertiary education sector.
