Job Description

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We have an exciting opportunity for you to work alongside surgeon scientists conducting clinical trials, playing a key role upholding the scientific and cultural rigour of the research programme, and assisting the translation of results into tangible outcomes that improve lives. 

This is a 12 month fixed term full time agreement, due to short term funding.

You will help provide academic leadership of the Surgical Trials Unit (STU), which comprises a highly-performing team of research nurses. The Unit carries out trials within the Auckland District Health Board, under the auspices of the Auckland Academic Health Alliance.

Your contribution will focus on the design, approval and conduct of clinical trials in surgical patients. This will include a range of study designs, including randomised controlled trials, and medical device evaluation. Studies may be investigator-initiated or company-sponsored.

Mindful of Treaty obligations, you will ensure that Māori health needs, culture, and aspirations are considered at every stage of the research programme. Upon completion, you will help ensure that trial results are translated into academic outputs and improved surgical outcomes.

We are looking to appoint at Research Fellow Step 1.

He kōrero mōu | About you

  • You will be experienced in conducting clinical research, and comfortable working in the hospital setting.
  • You will have completed a PhD which included the conduct of clinical trials.
  • You will have the ability to nurture relationships with Iwi, Hapū, and Community and Patient groups.
  • Medical technology development experience is an advantage.

  • Clinical Trails design & Statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of NZ frameworks for research and healthcare ethics
  • Writing for scientific & Acadmeic purposes
  • Experience in Clinical research in all stages
  • Familarity with tikanga Maori

Qualifications

Essential: PhD/MD or near-equivalent in relevant field

Preferred: Good Clinical Practice Certification
