Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The University of Auckland/Te Whare Wānanga o Tāmaki Makaurau is inviting applications to join our team in the School of Biological Sciences/Te Kura Mātauranga Koiora (SBS) as a permanent academic staff member in the position of Professional Teaching Fellow (1.0 FTE).

In this role, you will:

• Teach and coordinate courses at undergraduate level and participate in curriculum development, laboratory/tutorial teaching and coordination, assessment and academic pastoral care.  Teaching may be required at international partner institutions including in China for a period of approximately one month at a time.
• Contribute to service-related activities (University and community).

Professional Teaching Fellows work in a collegial and collaborative teaching environment to deliver excellent student learning experiences, framed by Te Tiriti accountabilities. A key priority is to deliver accessible, equitable, lifelong higher education opportunities. The focus is on student-centric learning that is research informed, transdisciplinary, relevant and with impact for the world. The successful applicant will teach into and lead the coordination of undergraduate courses using pedagogical practices informed by an understanding of the scholarship of teaching and learning and engagement with Te Tiriti o Waitangi . The role includes development and implementation of innovative teaching resources and assessment designed to enhance the student learning experience. The role involves pastoral care, as well as other relevant duties across undergraduate levels.

He kōrero mōu | About you

A postgraduate tertiary qualification in biology (or a related discipline) and experience in teaching is required. A teaching qualification is preferred but not required. Experience in quantitative biology, statistics and modelling, or related discipline is preferred. A commitment to inclusiveness and experience in teaching students with diverse backgrounds is required, particularly with Māori and Pasifika. Skills and experience in kaupapa Māori pedagogy and mātauranga Māori that foster inclusion of te ao Māori in programmes, teaching and the student experience are highly desirable. Candidates will be engaged with (or interested in contributing to) the scholarship of teaching and learning. Experience with on-line learning spaces, learning management systems and the design of innovative teaching and learning resources is preferred.
