Job Description

Put your legal knowledge to work helping people navigate challenging situations.

In our Legal Services team, you’ll manage legal expenses claims covering matters such as employment and property disputes, personal injury, clinical negligence, contractual disputes and motor prosecution defence. Your decisions will help policyholders access appropriate support while ensuring claims are handled fairly and responsibly.

You’ll oversee claims from first assessment to conclusion, considering funding at each stage and providing clear legal advice to policyholders before solicitors are instructed. You’ll work directly with customers and legal professionals, balancing individual circumstances with careful control of legal costs.

If you enjoy untangling complex issues, communicating with empathy and taking ownership of a varied caseload, this is an opportunity to make a tangible difference through your legal expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clear, accurate legal advice by telephone so policyholders can understand their options and next steps.
  • Assess and decide whether to accept or decline legal expenses claims, supporting fair and well-reasoned outcomes.
  • Manage claims through their lifecycle, reviewing funding decisions as cases progress.
  • Liaise with policyholders, solicitors, counsel, costs draftsmen and underwriters to keep cases moving and decisions informed.
  • Review and negotiate legal costs with solicitors to help ensure claims expenditure is reasonable.
  • Arrange legal costs payments accurately and promptly to support effective claims handling.
  • Maintain reliable claims records and appropriate financial reserves to support sound case management.

Qualifications

You’ll Bring

  • A law degree (LLB), Legal Executive qualification, LPC or equivalent qualification.
  • The ability to analyse complex legal issues and give confident, accurate legal advice.
  • Experience communicating directly with customers and delivering a helpful, professional service.
  • The ability to manage a varied caseload, organise priorities and work independently.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the confidence to negotiate with solicitors.
  • Good numeracy and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience working in a legal or insurance environment.
