About the Role

Join our Med Surg Neuro team as a Registered Nurse (RN) and play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with both neurological and medical-surgical needs. This fast-paced unit—located within a Level II Trauma Center—supports a diverse patient population requiring strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and compassionate care.

Our 30-bed unit is staffed with 29+ dedicated FTEs who value teamwork, clinical excellence, and a patient-centered approach to healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive neurological and medical assessments; recognize early signs of deterioration

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans

  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments per provider orders

  • Monitor post-op neuro patients, seizure precautions, stroke protocols, and complex comorbid conditions

  • Collaborate closely with physicians, therapists, case managers, and support staff

  • Provide patient and family education to support recovery and discharge readiness

  • Maintain documentation in compliance with hospital standards and regulatory requirements

  • Participate in care coordination, interdisciplinary rounds, and performance improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active RN License (FL or Compact)

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

  • 1+ year Med Surg or Neuro RN experience in an acute-care hospital

  • Ability to interpret neurological changes, stroke scales, and early warning signs

  • Strong competency with IV medication administration, telemetry, and post-operative care

Preferred/Ideal Candidate Additions:

  • Experience caring for stroke, seizure, neuro-trauma, and post-neurosurgery patients

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or willingness to obtain

  • Proven ability to manage 4–6 high-acuity patients safely and efficiently

  • Demonstrated excellence in time management, prioritization, and rapid problem-solving

  • Strong communicator able to collaborate across multiple disciplines

  • Positive, team-focused mindset with commitment to shared governance and unit improvement

  • Experience in a Level II/III Trauma or large community hospital setting
