About the Role
Join our Med Surg Neuro team as a Registered Nurse (RN) and play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with both neurological and medical-surgical needs. This fast-paced unit—located within a Level II Trauma Center—supports a diverse patient population requiring strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and compassionate care.
Our 30-bed unit is staffed with 29+ dedicated FTEs who value teamwork, clinical excellence, and a patient-centered approach to healthcare.
Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive neurological and medical assessments; recognize early signs of deterioration
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans
Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments per provider orders
Monitor post-op neuro patients, seizure precautions, stroke protocols, and complex comorbid conditions
Collaborate closely with physicians, therapists, case managers, and support staff
Provide patient and family education to support recovery and discharge readiness
Maintain documentation in compliance with hospital standards and regulatory requirements
Participate in care coordination, interdisciplinary rounds, and performance improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Required:
Active RN License (FL or Compact)
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
1+ year Med Surg or Neuro RN experience in an acute-care hospital
Ability to interpret neurological changes, stroke scales, and early warning signs
Strong competency with IV medication administration, telemetry, and post-operative care
Preferred/Ideal Candidate Additions:
Experience caring for stroke, seizure, neuro-trauma, and post-neurosurgery patients
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or willingness to obtain
Proven ability to manage 4–6 high-acuity patients safely and efficiently
Demonstrated excellence in time management, prioritization, and rapid problem-solving
Strong communicator able to collaborate across multiple disciplines
Positive, team-focused mindset with commitment to shared governance and unit improvement
Experience in a Level II/III Trauma or large community hospital setting
