Job Description

Tessenderlo Kerley Inc. is seeking a dynamic Communications Specialist who thrives on storytelling, energizing teams, and building culture through compelling content. This role requires exceptional interpersonal, writing, and copy-editing skills, with a flair for employer branding, public relations, and video content creation.

You’ll be a creative force who knows how to connect with employees and external audiences alike, using multimedia and messaging to inspire, inform, and unify.

Key Responsibilities:

Internal Communications

  • Help develop and implement an internal communications strategy that helps unify and ensure our employees are engaged and stay connected to the company and with each other as we grow.  
  • Work cross-functionally with the company's shared services and individual business units, such as Human Resources, Safety, and IT, to develop messaging/content supporting company initiatives.
  • Key internal communications deliverables include content creation for the monthly company newsletter, news flashes and informational screens located at all facilities (Phoenix office and manufacturing plants), and general employee announcements.
  • Have the ability to quickly understand and articulate what we need employees to know, the ability to turn complex ideas into simple and compelling communications, including succinct talking points and clear communications for leaders.
  • Analyze current internal communications processes and practices and make recommendations if improvement potential is identified.
  • Work with the HR department on the internal posting process for internal vacancies.
  • Support Executive Committee/CEO with one-off communications projects and pieces of work.
  • Conduct and report on employee surveys.
  • Respond to employee questions by facilitating responses.
  • Manage and direct the company’s intranet presence.
  • Help plan and coordinate internal events which include, annual meetings and quarterly town halls.
  • Collaborate with marketing and support teams to maintain a cohesive voice across company-wide communications and initiatives.
  • Create and manage internal communications schedules to ensure timely delivery of messages, updates, and announcements.
  • Monitor and evaluate communication effectiveness through feedback and engagement metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Act as a backup for the Director of Marketing and Communications during crisis communications, helping to manage urgent messaging with clarity and confidence.
  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to employee inquiries, fostering trust and transparency within the organization.
  • Manage internal communications budgets, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and projects are delivered within scope and cost.

External Communications

  • Collaborate with key internal team members to refine and edit website content (tessenderlokerley.com, tigersul.com, and moleko.com)
  • Collaborate, research, write and distribute press releases as part of our editorial initiatives.
  • Work with a marketing specialist to edit content for social and digital media campaigns.
  • Work with HR and digital marketing specialists to promote the company and engage candidates for open positions through social media outlets and job boards.
  • Develop and manage employer branding initiatives in collaboration with employee ambassadors and human resources.
  • Work cross-functionally with HR, Marketing, and Leadership to align employer branding and external messaging with internal communication strategies.
  • Coordinate with key business units to ensure consistency of tone and messaging across press releases, social media campaigns, and web content.

Qualifications

Key Knowledge Skills and Behaviors:

  • BA/BS Degree required – preferable in Communications/Media/Journalism
  • 3-5 years' experience in a communications role.
  • Ability to travel as necessary, up to 10%
  •   A passion for storytelling and a talent for energizing others.
  •   Experience in video production or content creation (even basic editing or scripting). An understanding of public relations, crisis communications and media outreach.
  • Be available on-call 24/7 during periods when the Director of Marketing and Communications is unavailable to handle crisis communications, ensuring timely and effective messaging in critical situations.
  • Excellent in the English language both written and verbal skills.
  • Significant experience in forms of social media and its application in the workplace to facilitate employee/internal communications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; Adobe Creative Cloud, and Survey Monkey experience a plus.
  • Empathetic and responsive to employee communication needs.
