• Lifecycle of a product from development to ranging in stores

Our colleagues work across a wide range of devices, applications, and systems to do their jobs. We work across broad aspects of our business, including distribution, office, and stores. Our teams are global with many colleagues working in different geographies (United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, India, Central Europe).

Responsibilities

• You’ll own UI design for large and small, and occasionally multi platform projects from start to finish, redefining complicated colleague tasks into simple and intuitive UI solutions
• Taking ownership of all end-to-end UI process activities including interaction design discovery, identifying trends, and critically analyzing their viability, sketching, wire-framing, prototyping, and delivering ready for build design files.
• Collaborate with different teams: You will work closely with UX designers, researchers, engineers, in store colleagues, product managers, data analysts, and business customers to explore, build and deliver designs.
• Take part in planning and carrying out in-store research, contacting relevant colleagues, planning test sessions and occasionally shadowing colleagues in store as they carry out their tasks, to build an understanding of what needs to be done for each given project
• Champion human centered design inside and outside of your team.
• Develop a high-level understanding of general responsibilities for various in store colleagues and learn to understand the different challenges faced in different sized store formats.
• Working within and across agile squads to design, develop and improve the colleague experience across our digital products.
• Partner with UX designers and researchers to help your team develop empathy for our colleagues, including those with a disability, and advocate for their needs, validating designs via A/B testing, unmoderated, usability testing, etc.
• Work closely with engineering teams to understand feasibility of design ideas and ensure review of design implementation at key stages of the development cycle
• Partner with the analytics team to help inform your work.
• Facilitate workshops, run appropriate conceptualization and participatory design sessions
• Promote inclusive design practices and deliver accessible designs
• Deliver valuable, high-quality, and consistent work without sacrificing speed by using our Digital Design System and its standardized foundations, components, and patterns.
• Collaborate with the design system team to help evolve the design system based on user needs
• Help other teams understand the value design can bring to a project to build the best products.
• Continuously seek to improve design processes inside/outside of your team to gain efficiency, remove obstacles, and simplify workflows
• Provide feedback to other designers to help strengthen your team and Tesco as a whole. You will help your teammates build context, strong decision-making skills, and empathy for our colleagues.

You will need

• 5+ years UI design experience
• Exceptional UI design skills (including interaction design)
• A strong, well-curated portfolio demonstrating your expertise across web, responsive and native app
• Prior involvement in high-profile design projects in a customer-facing commercial environment
• High level of proficiency with the latest versions of Figma along with good knowledge of the latest design and prototyping tools and technologies.
• Proficiency in designing with accessibility in mind and meeting WCAG 2.1 level AA.
• A good understanding of the end-to-end iterative design process
• Passion for solving problems while balancing all facets of a user experience
• Experience collaborating closely with multiple teams including product and engineering
• Self-motivated and organized with good time management skills.
• Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and subject areas within the organization.
• Ability to coach, mentor and set standards for ways of working for more junior team members
• An ability to empathize with in-store colleagues, and their duties, through user testing sessions, shadowing or interviews
• Proficiency with current industry design and collaboration tools such Miro etc.
• Previous experience in the retail sector is an advantage.

Hybrid working

Currently, at Tesco Technology we work in a hybrid model. We love working from home, but we also love connecting, collaborating and innovating with our colleagues in person. We meet in our office in Kraków for 2 days a week.
