Job Description
The Cloud Network Solution Architect is responsible for shaping TAL’s cloud network architecture, standards and technical roadmap, with a focus on cloud modernisation and secure, resilient connectivity across cloud and hybrid environments. The role leads solution design across connectivity, segmentation, routing, DNS, edge security and traffic management, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, resilient and cost-effective. Working across architecture, cyber security, identity and delivery teams, the role establishes cloud patterns, supports the transition from legacy infrastructure and ensures solutions meet business, security and regulatory requirements.
In this role you will:
- Cloud Architecture & Design Authority: Own the target-state cloud network architecture, standards, reference patterns and technical roadmap, ensuring solutions align with security, resilience and architectural requirements.
- Cloud Modernisation: Lead the transition from legacy on-premises infrastructure to cloud-native and managed services, designing secure and scalable hybrid and multi-cloud solutions.
- Cloud Migration & Delivery: Define and govern application and infrastructure migrations, including dependency mapping, migration planning, target-state design, cutover, operational readiness and legacy decommissioning.
- Network Architecture & Connectivity: Design cloud and hybrid network solutions across connectivity, segmentation, routing, DNS, private connectivity, shared network services and traffic management.
- Resilience & Disaster Recovery: Design resilient architectures incorporating redundancy, failover, recovery, monitoring and disaster recovery capabilities aligned with business continuity requirements.
- Security, Identity & Data Protection: Embed secure-by-design principles across cloud environments, including network security, access controls, encryption, data protection and automated security guardrails.
- Technology Risk & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure cloud architecture aligns with TAL’s technology risk requirements and relevant standards and regulatory obligations, including APRA CPS 230, CPS 234, Zero Trust, ISO 27001 and the ACSC Essential Eight.
- Technical Leadership & Governance: Provide technical direction to engineering and delivery teams, assure partner and vendor solutions, and clearly communicate architecture decisions, risks and trade-offs across technical and senior stakeholder forums.
Qualifications
- Cloud Architecture Experience: 8+ years’ experience across technology architecture, cloud engineering or infrastructure, including significant experience in a cloud architecture or senior solution design role.
- Cloud Platforms & Networking: Strong hands-on expertise across Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, with experience designing cloud networks, landing zones, hybrid connectivity, routing, DNS, segmentation, firewalls and secure platform foundations. Azure experience is highly regarded.
- Cloud Migration & Modernisation: Demonstrated experience designing and delivering large-scale cloud migration, modernisation or data centre exit programs, including hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
- Resilience & Disaster Recovery: Strong knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, backup and recovery, monitoring and operational resilience, including designing against recovery and service continuity requirements.
- Cloud Security & Identity: Strong understanding of Zero Trust, identity and access management, network security, encryption, secrets management, security controls and secure cloud architecture.
- Automation & DevOps: Experience with infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform or Bicep, CI/CD pipelines, policy-as-code, cloud APIs and scripting using PowerShell, Python or similar technologies.
- Architecture Governance, Risk & Standards: Experience establishing architecture standards, patterns and decision records, with knowledge of recognised frameworks and regulatory requirements such as ISO 27001, NIST, ACSC Essential Eight, APRA CPS 230 and CPS 234.
- Stakeholder & Technical Leadership: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide technical leadership and translate complex architecture, security, cost and technology risk considerations into clear business outcomes.
