Job Description

This role is suited to a Business focused BA

The Senior Business Analyst plays a key role within Individual Life's Program office by working closely with the business to understand their needs and interests ensuring they are met via inter-departmental projects and changes from concept through to implementation.  

They will act as the main conduit between development teams and the business by translating business needs into software specifications according to a prescribed development methodology.

The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for taking the lead on and ensuring that all changes (whether project or BAU) are accurately documented, meet the business needs and deliver a positive benefit through identified improvements.

The Senior Business Analyst will be able to work with minimal supervision in a highly professional environment supported by colleagues with strong technical skills. They will be able to lead requirement streams within large programs of work and provide leadership and governance over the output to small teams of BA’s work. 

In this role you will:

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Determine business needs and drivers through stakeholder consultation and collaboration
  • Build and manage excellent stakeholder (internal and external) relationships
  • Ability to constructively challenge stakeholders on their needs to determine the best solution

REQUIREMENTS ELICITATION AND ANALYSIS

  • Independently identify business needs and define the scope and capabilities/features that the project/initiative will deliver
  • Manage negotiation of requirements prioritisation effectively based on factors including business value, costs to deliver and time constraints
  • Competently facilitate regular project work stream meetings and workshops
  • Expertly conduct workshops 

CHANGE MANAGEMENT

  • Undertake detailed assessment to establish impacts of change onto the business
  • Define capabilities and requirements to support transition to new solutions 
  • Plan, lead and manage effective communications to meet project and stakeholder needs
  • Effectively liaise and work closely with Training department 

SUPPLEMENTARY

  • Work closely with the PM to provide project management support and drive initiatives
  • Proactively foster an environment of growth and a strong team culture
  • Team leadership 
  • Mentoring / coaching of colleagues 
  • Key role in development and continuous improvement of the BA practice.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in the Insurance industry on complex programs of $5-$10M budget
  • Ability to document clear, concise, unambiguous requirements utilising various techniques and formats, e.g. user stories, process flows
  • Excellent at conducting workshops with large stakeholder groups for entire work stream 
  • Strong attention to detail and a rigorous focus on delivering quality output
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and collaboration skills 
  • Expert stakeholder management experience with focus on relationship development, management and negotiation skills. Highly capable at defusing situations and influencing stakeholders to a consensus 
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of systems / software development lifecycle 
  • Outstanding ability to analyse, isolate and interpret business needs and work with multiple IT delivery teams to ensure successful implementation
  • Well versed in multiple requirements gathering techniques, change management methodologies and processes
  • Lead, coach and inspire team members to complete deliverables within short deadlines 

DESIRED

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an IT related field. IIBA Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) certification 
  • Experience in Life Insurance / Financial Services industry and background in call centre technology / telephony or as a Consultant
  • Exposure to multiple change management methodologies and processes.
