Job Description

This role is primarily responsible for providing support to the Head of Strategic Capital and Commercial Solutions to initiate, develop and ultimately execute value adding activities.  You will contribute to the Strategic Capital team to implement TAL's capital management strategy including providing recommendations to the EGM Commercial Solutions, CFO and Board on all aspects of capital management.

You will contribute in providing financial assessments (profit, capital, value) for finance led reinsurance initiatives or otherwise work with the business to develop such assessments, including potential risks.  You will contribute to the execution and appropriate governance of such strategies.  

You will contribute to the development of initiatives that enable reinsurance to be optimised from a capital and value perspective.  This may involve participating in discussions on new reinsurance initiatives with external parties, relationship management, transaction coordination and finalisation, risk management and monitoring.  To be clear, the role does not include the day to day operational management of reinsurance premium payments and claim collection.

You will contribute to capital management activities including recovery planning, stress testing, forecasting and dividend approvals.

You will contribute to the Commercial Action Plan (CAP) activities and liaise and support finance and the business in developing, planning, executing and reporting on CAP initiatives. 

Your responsibilities will include contribution to strategy, and underlying financial analysis related to the following areas:

  • Strategic direction for TAL's capital management 
  • Development of capital related initiatives in conjunction with the business and Finance
  • Development and regular updates to the CAP 
  • Participating in developing and syndicating potential reinsurance initiatives that add value and sit within TAL's risk appetite
  • Reinsurance strategy
  • Reviewing and influencing the development of reinsurance treaties including termination of treaties 

 

Qualifications

  • Strong Knowledge of Life Insurance Capital or Valuation 
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative to source and apply underlying data information for analysis
  • Ability to develop strong relationships across the wider actuarial teams within TAL Finance and the business
  • Strong Financial modelling experience.
  • Strong ability to communicate and to articulate complex concepts.
  • Strong understanding of financial and operational risk management
  • Time management and prioritisation skills essential.
  • Proven ability to investigate and resolve complex issues. 
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong initiative, in particular with respect to developing new ideas and concepts for practical application.
  • Qualified Actuary
