Job Description
TAL is on a journey to significantly improve the customer experience of our underwriting proposition. As the market continues to evolve, medical advances are made and the needs and expectations of our customers and distribution partners change, TAL is looking to optimise our customers’ underwriting experience.
The Underwriting Analytics and Insights Analyst will support delivery of TAL’s commitment to customer excellence and data-driven decision-making working with a centralised data analytics platform which combines data across the end-to-end value chain to leverage our data assets to the benefit of our customers and shareholders. This role will leverage data analytics and risk management expertise, and delivery through artificial intelligence, to support the optimisation of our underwriting processes and increase the automation of underwriting decisions at TAL.
In this role you will:
- Support delivery of reporting to improve operational underwriting processes and optimise the commercial impacts of TAL’s underwriting across Group and Individual Life.
- Design and deliver in-depth analytics and insights of customers’ digital underwriting experiences, identifying pain points and areas for improvement in TAL’s digital underwriting across the enterprise.
- Analyse Underwriting Rules Engine (URE) data to inform rule changes to improve automation of underwriting decisions.
- Identify and report on insights and trends in the monthly operational and URE underwriting results to inform management action to optimise customer experience and commercial outcomes of underwriting.
- Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of underwriting-related machine learning models and artificial intelligence solutions with our vendor partners.
- Perform analysis on underwriting and claims data across the end-to-end value chain to refine and optimise TAL’s underwriting philosophy.
- Maintain feedback loops between claims and underwriting insights to drive continuous operational and process improvements.
- Contribute to and drive various strategic projects on an ongoing basis.
- Support broader commercial management insights and analytics across Claims and Underwriting.
Qualifications
- Data scientist/Actuarial/Statistician with Life Insurance experience preferred.
- 3+ years’ experience in the Australian Retail Market.
- Strong financial analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of, and curiosity about, experience drivers and a drive to improve business performance.
- Strong time and project management skills.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills both written and verbal.
- High level of relationship development skills.
- Understanding of, and ongoing development in, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
- Enjoy collaborating and leveraging TAL’s supportive culture to continuously grow and develop.
- 1-3 years of Data Science experience
