Job Description
We are looking for a System Engineer to join our Connect division in Sydney or Melbourne, reporting to Engineering Manager – Infrastructure.
As a member of the Global Infrastructure team, you will be part of a team delivering new products and capabilities for our customers. You will be responsible for the development and deployment of systems, platforms, & infrastructure for Symbio's voice and data networks globally.
You will focus on driving infrastructure automation and ensure our deployments, both on-prem and cloud (AWS), you are resilient and repeatable across development and production environments. You will work collaboratively within your team and with other Delivery, Software and Infrastructure teams in delivering systems and services as well as ensuring we understand the health of our systems at any point in time to reduce outages.
Help us modernize our tech stack by advocating fit for purpose solutions and enhance the way we work by ensuring our systems are healthy and resilient, with best practice observability & monitoring.
There is an expectation that this role is part of the teams after hours support roster (level 3), which is rotated weekly for production critical platforms. We also understand that we as a team need to do everything we can, to ensure resilient and self-healing platforms and the technology leadership will provide the time to make sure we do.
Qualifications
What you'll need to succeed:
- 5+ years’ experience in a systems or infrastructure engineering role in a Telco/ISP/Large enterprise
- Deep technical knowledge of on-premise infrastructure – compute & storage, virtualisation
- Experience in on-premise systems management including installing, configuring and maintaining bare metal and virtualized systems
- Strong understanding of VMware and cloud management systems (eg. Openstack)
- Good understanding of KVM.
- Strong understanding of Linux (Redhat/CentOS) Systems (Windows a desirable bonus)
- Strong understanding of bash / shell scripting
- Experience with DNS, NTP
- Experience in troubleshooting complex technical issues
- A sense of ownership of technical projects and improvement of engineering practices
- Are curious, motivated, self-learner but are also great team players
- Customer focussed attitude
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong stakeholder management skills
Desirable:
- Experience in CI/CD tools, pipelines and version control such as Gitlab
- Experience in automating manual processes to drive efficiency with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, etc. (Puppet is a bonus)
- Exposure in public cloud environment/technologies including AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, ELB/ALB
- Scripting experience using Python as well as experience in using data serialization languages such as JSON and YAML
- Understanding of networking architecture and internet protocols
- Understanding of VoIP technologies & protocols
- Proven experience in systems and network design and development
