About the team and the role

We are seeking a commercially driven Senior Manager, Aviation Development to join our Aviation Development team. The Aviation Development Team drives SYD's strategic air service development to meet future passenger demand and ensure sustainable growth. They collaborate with stakeholders to expand existing routes and attract new airlines, manage airline route business cases and growth incentives, and develop key programs to achieve Sydney Airport's strategic growth goals.

The Senior Manager, Aviation Development – South Asia will lead Sydney Airport’s airline business development efforts across India and South Asia. This is a newly created role that will drive strategic partnerships, secure new airline services, and grow inbound and outbound travel demand across the region.

Reporting to the Head of Aviation Partnerships, you will be responsible for identifying and converting new route opportunities, deepening airline and government relationships, and working closely with tourism and travel trade partners to unlock passenger growth. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of the South Asian aviation landscape, market dynamics, and cultural nuances, paired with a proven ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder negotiations.

About the role

  • Lead route development strategy for South Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and surrounding markets.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to attract new airlines and increase services from existing partners. Build and maintain relationships with airline decision-makers, government stakeholders, airport authorities, and tourism bodies, with a high presence in South Asia each quarter.
  • Prepare and present business cases, traffic forecasts, and market analysis for new route proposals. Coordinate joint marketing initiatives with airlines and tourism partners to drive passenger growth.
  • Represent Sydney Airport at aviation forums, industry conferences, and government missions. Monitor competitive developments to inform strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Retail, and Operations for successful route launches.
  • Provide regional intelligence to support SYD aviation strategy and network planning. Mentor junior team members.
  • Manage strategic action plans for South Asian markets, ensuring timely delivery and performance monitoring.
  • Travel to South Asia each quarter to foster relationships and drive aviation development opportunities.

About you

  • 8+ years' experience in aviation route development, network planning, airline sales/marketing, or tourism strategy—preferably with exposure to South Asia.
  • Proven track record in business development and stakeholder management in a B2B or government setting.
  • Deep understanding of the Indian and broader South Asian aviation and travel markets.
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills with the ability to build and defend data-led business cases.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to executive and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience navigating cross-cultural environments and working with international teams.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across South Asia and domestically within Australia.
  • Language skills in Hindi or other South Asian languages highly regarded.
  • Strong computer literacy skills, PowerBI advanced Microsoft suite 
  • Ability to analyse data and draw out meaningful insights that drive strategic outcomes
