Job Description
- Responsible for defining and preparing assumptions (demand, hydrology, maintenance, fuel prices, etc.) required for long‑term (Y+4) electricity market projection studies, as well as updating the model database with the necessary information to run Base Cases and required Sensitivities.
- Run simulations using the SDDP optimization model to obtain projections of marginal costs and production for thermal and hydro units in the SEIN; additionally, analyze and validate the consistency of the results to ensure accurate projections of Contribution Margin and risk assessments.
- Coordinate and actively participate in the preparation of the annual LPF study (beyond Y+4), developed jointly with the CSA team in Oslo, for subsequent use in long‑term forecasting exercises.
- Supervise and coordinate the development of assumptions and run simulations in the SDDP model for medium‑term price forecasting (Y+2).
- Supervise and coordinate the evaluation reports for medium and long‑term price forecasts in order to identify opportunities to improve model performance.
- Supervise and coordinate the backtesting process of the SDDP model with the objective of proposing improvements to market representation and achieving more robust results.
- Implement and ensure compliance of the document “Guiding Principles for Market Analysis” in accordance with corporate (MGX) requirements.
- Explore and adapt visualization tools developed by the corporate team.
- Develop automation tools using VBA, Python, Power BI, and/or databases to streamline market modeling processes, calculations involving large volumes of data, and the preparation of reports on production results, marginal costs, contribution margin projections, and dispatch management, with the objective of reducing execution time.
- Prepare bimonthly price and market trend reports (Market Update) and provide periodic information to management for Market Board meetings.
- Perform revenue projections for potential projects under evaluation, including M&A and/or Greenfield opportunities.
- Regularly review and assess the area’s processes and, in coordination with Headquarters (Oslo) and competence centers (hydrology and analysis), identify and exchange best practices and improvement opportunities to ensure proper execution.
Qualifications
Level of education:
- Higher education, bachelor's degree and/or university diploma
Specialization:
- Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Mechanic Engineering, Energy Management
Experience:
- 5 years in similar position in commercial areas of power generation companies using hydro-thermal dispatch models (NCP, SDDP, others)
Other knowledge:
- Good knowledge in the regulation of energy markets
- Optimization of power systems
- Advanced English level
- Specialized software to forecast energy prices
- Programming skills in VBA, Python, SQL and/or Power BI
